PHS documented #'s Matching 400 4 speed w/ Original paint, nicely optioned
1967 Pontiac GTO CONVERTIBLE Description
Here is a 1967 Pontiac GTO Convertible
This is a PHS documumented, 400, 4 speed #'s matching original paint car.
This car is very complete and very restorable but will need a complete restoration.
Factory Options that were listed out on the PHS were as follows:
AM/FM Radio (Currently has correct 67 AM radio installed)Rally Gauges/TachRally I wheels (Curently has Rally II's on it)Custom Sport (Wood) Steering WheelConsoleCustom Floor Shift knobRed line tiresSafe-T-Track Rear end4 speed transmission
Overall this car is an excellent restoration candidate. It has its original burgundy paint, so there should be no hidden surprises or filler. The car shows no signs of any significant body damage or repair from crash. All panels appear to be original and straight, however as typical of a vehicle that is nearly 50 years old, there is some rust.
The car is numbers matching in terms of the block, heads, intake, trans and rear. I have not looked at the distributor, alternator or starter. The carb is not the original. The Odometer shows 6691 miles, so I assume that would be 106691.
The engine turns over, the trans and rear both turn freely and nothing makes any funny noises. However the engine doesn't run and we have not tried to get it started. We did have the heads off for inspection and the cylinders look clean with very little wear showing (no major ridge).
Exterior:The car appears to have all of its original body panels and each appears to wear its original paint. The front header has a couple of dingsThe hood is clean, on the top side and from what I can remember is pretty clean underneath as well. Both inner fenders appear to be goodBoth fenders are straight but do have the typical rust in the lower heels areas. Could be repaired with the lower repair panels that are readily available and made in the USA.Both doors have rust holes in the corner. Both outer rockers look good. Each inner rocker has some rust. Both quarters are very straights but as you can see from the photos do have some rust issues, mainly down low.Trunk lid has rust on the inner lip.Taillight panel although is not rusted has some damage that you should be able to see in the pictures. Floor pans have some rust holes however the braces appear to be in pretty good condition.Trunk floor has the typical rust in the body brace area as well as the front portion of the gas tank supports.Dash and lower windshield area both look very good and really do not show any holes.Fire wall and cowl both look good. Both bumpers are clean and straight and would be excellent candidates for rechroming. All of the exterior stainless is there and very restorable.
Interior:Interior is also very complete and original. It should be very easy to restore.Bucket seat frames are very solid and the correct original sides and backs are in good condition.Rear seat frame is also in good condition. These rear seats being convertible only are very difficult to find. The dash has not been cut. Rally gauges appear to be correct and original and show just over 6,000 miles.Car appears to have its original wood (sport) steering wheel.Console appears to be complete and only showing some minor pitting.Windows all roll up and down as they should.
Drivetrain:This car has its correct, original WT engine. All of the date codes are matching on the block heads and intake. The only thing I believe to not be original is the carburetor.Engine turns over freely but we have not tried to get it started and feel that it should be rebuilt for a proper restoration.Transmission is also date-matched to the car. Transmission shows no signs of abuse. Shifter is correct Hurst competition plusRear end has the correct limited-slip tag.Housing has the correct part number and date code however I was unable to find the 2 letter stamp on the axle. Often times sandblasting is needed to reveal the stamping.Suspension appears to all be original with drum brakes all the way around. The frame is rusty and will need to be replaced. This car comes with a good 1966 GTO convertible bare frame. The frame is included with the purchase of the car.The car currently has Rally II wheels. The PHS shows the car originally came with Rally I's.
