Offered for sale is an absolutely gorgeous, mechanically excellent, extremely well documented 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa with only 53k original miles. Finished in beautiful and understated special order Weißgold (Platinum or “White Gold”) Metallic paint over a deep brown leather interior, the car is as mechanically tight and sound as it is beautiful and has had only two owners from new, in the original owner’s possession for 30+ years (until 2015). Consequently, the car is extremely well documented, with a thick stack of service records from new, all the original books and manuals, a stamped service booklet and a clean CARFAX report.
Always garaged and well cared for, the car’s Platinum finish is gorgeous, deep and lustrous and marred only by the most negligible of imperfections (a few rock chips and the like), commensurate with any 53k mile garage queen. The body is entirely straight with factory consistent panel fits and gaps throughout, showing absolutely no evidence of any accidents.
The rubber is in excellent condition, as is the Targa top, exhbiting virtually no wear on both the exterior and the headliner, with new seals done last year. The Fuchs wheels are impeccable and wrapped in Yokohama tires with less than 2,000 miles of use. The car’s undercarriage is completely rust-free, original and untouched, as is the battery box and front boot compartment.
The car’s interior is equally as clean, the original deep brown leather seats showing only nominal wear. The same can said of the carpets and interior panels and the dash is free of cracking or warping. The power seats, A/C system, heat power mirrors, power windows and power locks all function properly.
The car’s original 3.2L engine fires up without any smoke or hesitation, pulling strongly and smoothly through each of the transmission’s gears. A recent leak down test was within 5% across all cylinders and compression is even and strong. The bevy of records show that doting mechanical care was always provided, the brakes were recently gone through, the clutch recently replaced and the suspension and ride quality are pure Porsche. It’s easy to understand why this era of 911s is one of the most desirable: it beautifully melds efficiency, reliability and everyday drivability with a truly visceral, vintage feel on the road that is sure to provide anyone behind the wheel a wonderfully grin-inducing experience.
The full documentation includes – in a service receipt, in the service booklet and on the Carfax report – record of the odometer being replaced in 1999 at 48,754 miles. An avid Porschephile thatpurposefully only used the car sparingly over his 30 years of ownership, the original owner was well aware of just how important documentation of this replacement was, so he ensured it was clearly and properly recorded. As such, the replacement odometer currently reads 4,988, making the car’s total mileage 53,742.
If you’re in the market for an 1980s 911, this gorgeous example checks all the right boxes: extremely original, only two owners, 53k original miles, clean cosmetics, extensive documentation from new and strong, well-maintained mechanicals. This is an excellent example of one of Porsche’s best creations and with the market reflecting continued and rapid appreciation, we expect interest to be considerable.
