I purchased this car in August 1988. I knew this car growing up and I am the second owner. Shortly after purchasing the car I set out to repair some issues that every 14 year old car might have and to make some minor up grades. I repaired some minor rust issuesaround theheadlights, rockers and targa bar mounting bolts. Since I needed to paint the car I decided to change the color to Guards red.
In 1991 I had enough of having a 911 that looked like all the otherGuards red 911's so it was time for another color change.I completely stripped the car to bare metal. I cut out and replacedwith new metal allrust that was found at that time. I also repairedthe driver door sill that showed evidence of previous damage and improperly repaired. The sill was cut out and a new sill welded in. The car was painted in Mercedes Benz midnight blue, the trim wasblacked out. The interior was changed from it's original cork/tan and black to a light cream and navy blue.I had the 2.7 rebuilthad the troublesome Bosch fuel injection replaced with 40IDA Webbers. I also replaced the Cookies with Enki's and replaced the red US tail light lenses with Amber euro lenses.I had a minor front endshunt that scratched the bumper and damaged the headlights and hood. Since I was making repairs I decided to take the project to the next level and create a Euro Carrera-ish targa and somewhat take the car back to a more stock/original look that I had been gathering parts for over the years. I purchased SC rear flares and rockers, H4's and an RS style lower valance. During the front end repairs I decided to remove the dealer installed A/C, components and filled in the cut outs. While there I removed the front suspension and began freshening up the front end components. Since the suspension was off I stripped the undercoating and checked for rust. The tub was mostly clean. I repaired some minor rust in the foot wells and door posts. The whole front end of the tub has been sprayed with SEM Rust-shield and is ready for new undercoating. I also found some rustin the rear seat pans, these were cut outand rust free replacements welded in.I modified the gas tank from it's original fill to an RSR-IROC style tank with a Blau cap. The stock two in-one out sport muffler has been modified to a two in two-out muffler.
As stated I havebeen collecting parts to complete the Euro Carrera look for several years. I have 7/8 x 16 Fuchs, a duck tail a 76 turbo style tail with real rubber lip. 74-80 Black leather sport seats in near perfect condition. Driver side has a small tear and torn seal. Easily repaired. I have oil fed chain tensioners to install in the 2.7, euro front bumper light delete rubbers. I have many boxes of original Porsche parts. Including the original narrow rear fenders from the car, SC fenders a set ofG60 fenders, two sets of front fenders, a stock front valance with rubber andthe RS style valance. I purchased a basket case 74 911S as a parts car and stripped all useable parts to transfer to this car. I have all the original trim and now a second set of chrome trim, correct rear grill, two chrome side mirrors, several sets of brake calipers. new rubber trim, and on and on. As you will see from the photos there are boxes and boxes of parts. It all goes with the car.
This Targa is extremely solid with I would say no rust at this point. This is an excellent restoration project. The suspension pan and floors are perfect. The rear fenders still need to be butt welded on to the car. Once the frontsuspension is reinstalled the car can be repainted and reassembled. With the early cars commanding big prices these are a reasonable way to get into a vintage 911.
This car ranand drovevery wellbut has been sitting for awhile. Once reassembledit would benefit from a tune up. This 911 was delivered from the factory inBitter Chocolate, Tan interior. It had a 2.7 with Bosch fuel injection and a sporto-matic transmission. Both the engine and transmission have been replaced. The car currently has a 2.7 with webbers and a 915 transmission. The mileage on the odometer is original to the car but not to the engine. The Enki rims are no longer with the car. I reserve the right to end the listing early as car is available for sale localy.
This car is being sold "AS-IS". Buyer will make arrangements for shipping.
