1974 Porsche 914 Base Coupe 2-Door 1.8L, Barn Find, Runs Great, Drives, NO RES
1974 Porsche 914 Base Coupe 2-Door Description
This NO RESERVE auction is for a 1974 Porsche 914 that has been stored for several years. The car is owned by a friend of mine and I am selling it for him. He is neither a "car guy" or an "Ebay guy" so I am helping him out on this one. His family purchased the car new in 1974. His brother ended up with it until 2003 when it was given to my friend, the current owner. When he received the car nothing had been done and it needed some work. He had the engine completely rebuilt, along with a new clutch and some driveline repairs. He also had the car painted. There was some rust, which was repaired of course at the time. The car was then driven sparingly for the next 10 years and then not at all for the next 4 or 5 years. We were discussing it one day and he said he had decided to sell it but was not sure of the best way....so here we are! I brought the car to my shop and we got it running. It didn't take alot, fresh fuel, new battery and the car started up. Clutch felt good, brakes felt good so I drove it up and down the road several times. It seems to go down the road pretty well. It will need some TLC to be roadworthy in my book. I certainly wouldn't think about driving it home, not after setting so long. I will try to describe the cars condition to the best of my ability. The interior is pretty original and looks about like a 40 year old car would. Seats are pretty nice, just a couple of tears in the drivers seat bottom. Carpet is all there but old and a bit dirty. Dash looks good, all gauges seem to work and are in place. Replacement stereo in the factory spot. The exterior is pretty nice, the paint job looks nice and there are just a couple places where rust is beginning to bubble under the finish. The trunks are clean and have been repainted. Rust repair is evident in them but is still solid from the repaint. Under the car previous rust repair is also evident but still seems solid. The floorplan of this car is solid as well as the majority of the subframe. There is some rust under the battery which is common as I understand from reading online. There is also some other rust visible underneath. Overall I would rate the underside of the car a 7 out of 10 with visible but solid previous rust repair and some areas that seems at this point to still be solid but may need rust repair in the future. I have quite a few pictures of the car, top and bottom so email me if you need a specific shot. Not enough room to put them all in Ebay. The engine starts easily and sounds good. From underneath it is evident that the engine has been gone over. It looks like all new pushrod tubes are evident, the block is clean and the heat shielding is new. The tires are like new but probably are 10 years old I would guess. No visible weather cracking however. The wheels look good and have been refinished. All glass is good. The top section is good with a real nice headliner. The mileage on the odometer as well as on the title is 36k but he does not know if it has rolled over once. I have no idea as well. The title does show 36k. Please email with any specific questions. This is a NO RESERVE auction and will go to the high bidder at the end. It is a pickup only item. We will work with your hauler if necessary to get it safely loaded.
On May-01-17 at 06:53:14 PDT, seller added the following information:NOTICE: It has been brought to my attention that the front of this car is not consistent with the rest of the car. In other words, the front bumper cover, as well as some attributes of the inner trunk says that some parts of the front end have been replaced with parts from a later model year 914 after an accident. Upon quizzing the previous owner of the car there was in his mind some accident damage that occurred several years ago. His memory was that the right front corner (fender) had been replaced because of a minor accident. I personally can see signs of repair inside the trunk in the right front corner. If you look closely at the seam where the inner fender meets the shock/strut mount area you can see it in the picture I have in the auction. Others have suggested that the entire front end has been "clipped" because of things they see in said same pictures. I can't see any signs of that level of repair but hey....anything is possible! It is a 40 something year old car that has obviously seen quite a bit of repair of all types. This all being said, I have no intention of deceiving anyone into purchasing a car that they are not as knowledgeable as possible. I had considered just ending the sale and starting over but so many people are watching and bidding. I know if I was watching and bidding I wouldn't appreciate the listing just ending and starting over! So...I am going to let the auction go ahead and end as planned. If you are the high bidder and this new information makes you no longer interested, please feel free to withdraw your bid. I will understand, and Ebay will understand! I also want to reiterate.....this car will need some tinkering and work before being roadworthy. It has set many years and even though it starts and drives, it will need quite a bit of TLC to become roadworthy. Thanks again and my apologies for any hassle this may have caused you!
