One owner vintage Porsche are hard to find these days.
One owner vintage Porsche 968 Cabriolet’s with just 23,879 ACTUAL MILES are impossible to find.
Add the rare manual 6-speed transmission into the mix, and you might have just found the Holy Grail of 968’s!
That is what this incredibly clean car is, and I hope I can find it a worthy new home.
I purchased this car from the original owners, and the husband and wife have been the only two people to drive it until me, save for Porsche Technicians who performed service work on it.
The car wears its original L908 Grand Prix White exterior paint proudly, as careful storage in climate controlled garages and regular detailing and waxing have maintained a fantastic finish on the car all around.
It still shows glossy and slick, and has less than a handful or so minor marks and blemishes from 25 years of limited use.
The few small exterior marks consist of tiny (less than 3mm) stone chips, a few light scuff marks that may come out when you have the car detailed the first time, some grime and dirt that definitely will come out when you detail it, and one small, almost imperceptible ding that won’t even photograph, but is present.
The flip-up headlamps operate perfectly, and are clean and neat when open as well.
Optional CODE 288 headlamp washers are fully functional.
Front license plate blocks are intact and function.
Parking and directional lamps are clean, undamaged, and fully functional.
Fit and finish, gaps, and panel alignment is all factory original and correct with zero issues.
Side mirrors are clean and damage free, and function perfectly.
Glass on the car is all original, and is damage free with no marks, chips, cracks or issues, and the original PORSCHE Bumper Warning sticker is intact and has never been removed!
Door handles function perfectly, and both sides lock and unlock with the key.
Rubber trim, seals, and weather strip are all in exceptional condition, with no cracking, dry rot, or issues.
Badging and trim show wonderfully, and are issue free.
The blue convertible top with matching tonneau cover presents wonderfully, with no rips, tears, or seam pulls, and the car has spent the majority of the past 25 years with the top up inside a climate controlled garage here in Southwest Florida, so the back window is clear, clean, and in great condition.
Aficionados will notice that the stock 16” wheels have been upgraded, and the car now rides on 17” 996 rims wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza radials size 255/40-17 in back, and 225/145-17 up front. The tires are in exceptional condition, and have less than 3,000 miles since installation, and the wheels look fantastic, with only a few light marks to be found, and no major curb damage, cracks, or fissures.
The wheels were purchased and installed at the local Porsche dealership in October of 2000, and the original wheels were exchanged at that time are not included in this sale.
Overall, the outside of the car presents as a strong 8.75 in condition, and I am sure that after you take the time to have the car professionally detailed it will move to a 9.25.
Opening up the doors reveals an interior that presents so well, you might think you went back in time!
Dash is in excellent condition with no cracks, issues, or damage.
Steering wheel is in excellent condition with no seam pulls, wear spots, or sun fade. Horn buttons are intact and functional, and the car is equipped with factory Driver and Passenger AIR BAGS.
Column functions as it should, and the turn signals, cruise functions, and washer controls mounted to it operate as they should as well.
All vents and duct work are in perfect working order and damage free.
Gauge cluster is in exception condition, and all of the gauges appear to be functioning perfectly across the board.
Warning lights come on when you start the car, and the E-Brake active light is functional too, but there are NO check engine or service lights on.
Defrost, recirculate, and A/C switches all work as they should, and the air temp and location slides work correctly too. The heat blows extremely hot, and the air blows extremely cold.
Hazard lamp switch works as it should.
Switches for headlamps and fog lamps function as they should.
Cigar lighter is functional, as is the 12V outlet it resides in, but the car has NEVER been smoked in, and has had no pets inside its cabin at any point.
There are no odors or scents of any kind in the car.
Glove box locks as it should, and the cubby holds the complete owner manual packet with basically everything the dealer gave the prior owners at time of purchase included.
The outside temperature digital readout display on the dash has some of its lights out, but will switch from Celsius to Fahrenheit correctly.
Center console is in very good condition, and the lid opens to reveal a hidden storage area under the arm rest. There is light marks from normal use on the center console area, but it is not damaged. Just marks from rings, bracelets, and watches brushing it on occasion. I have a very large photo of the area in the listing to show how minor the marks are.
Ashtray lid slides easily to the left, and has been used for change storage only by the prior owners.
Shift knob and boot are in very good condition, with only very light normal signs of being used.
Convertible top switch, mirror switch, and central lock button all work as they should and show very well.
The cubby hole is intact, and the conventional clock works as it should.
A few years back, the factory Blaupunkt head unit was removed from the car and replaced with a new, more modern ALPINE AM/FM/CD/MP3 unit, and the factory (CODE 490) upgraded multi-speaker system was enhanced with the addition of two KICKER subwoofers with metal grills that were installed in the package tray of the car.
The new system sounds INCREDIBLE, and has enough power from the trunk mounted amplifier to clearly hear your favorite tunes at freeway speeds with the top down!
The original head unit, as well as the original CD CHANGER unit are included with the car in case you want to put them back in.
The rear cubby boxes are intact, clean, and function as they should, and both lock with the key.
Carpeting in the car is in exceptional condition, as the PORSCHE floormats protected it from the light use it saw over the last 25 years.
Front mats look great, but do show signs of use. Rear mats are like new.
Door panels, kick panels, side panels, rear panels, and pillar covers all look fantastic, and are damage free.
Power window switches on both doors work as they should, and the windows go up and down with ease.
Seats are leather, as part of the ORDER CODE SW Marine Blue partial leather interior package, and they are in exceptionally good condition, with no rips, tears, or seam pulls, and only the faintest sign of correct aging you would expect to see in a high-grade natural leather.
All seat functions work as they should.
The car is equipped with a power top, and it is fully functional and operates quickly and easily from full up to full down, and vice-versa, at the push of a button. The factory original latch handle is included, and works perfectly to seal the front of the top.
Power windows actuate during the process, and the whole operation is a smooth and easy one, in either direction.
Factory convertible top boot goes on easily, and all of the snaps appear to be intact and working as they should to hold it in place during spirited jaunts.
Trunk opens easily from the inside switch or via key, and it is clean, neat, and unmolested save for the aforementioned amplifier installation.
Opening the hood reveals a very clean and well-cared for engine bay, and one look lets you know that the car spent most of its life in its prior owners Florida garage, or the heated one in Illinois, as there is no evidence of any corrosion or issues. As a matter of fact, the car is so astonishingly clean under the hood, you could enter it in shows right now, and we have not even professionally detailed it! Just imagine how amazing it will look when you take time to have the nooks and crannies wiped down?!?!
The car is stock, and great care was taken to try and use genuine Porsche maintenance items whenever they could.
The car has no known functional issues, starts and idles perfectly, and is drive ready.
There are no odd noises, no leaks, no weeps, and the car operates as though it were new, without any odd tendencies whatsoever.
The manual transmission feels exceptionally tight, and the clutch take-up, engagement, and performance is spot on.
Shifting is slot-like in its precision, and the car does not “pop out” of any gears, at any time.
Power is smooth and seamless throughout the gear selections, and the car accelerates with no flat spots, stuttering, or issues.
Cruising at a GPS verified and speedometer matched 85mph reveals no shudders, pulling, wander, or ride issues.
Hard braking from high speed is smooth and sure, with no pulling, jabbing to the side, excessive modulation, or odd pedal feel.
Normal braking is just as solid, sure, and precise.
Handling is tight, and the wheel feels like an extension of your arms when driving, with the smallest movements easily altering the course of the car with sureness. There is no odd feedback in the wheel, and the car drives as though it were only a few years old in every way.
Chassis on the car is clean, neat, and shows a bare pan without any sort of heavy sprays, gunk, or paint applied to it. It is all rust free, and all of the suspension components appear to be clean, functional, and issue free as well.
