I acquired this 911 in 2012 from a fellow PCA member in Anacortes, WA. Under his care, the car had been subject to a comprehensive mechanical and partial cosmetic restoration over a 7-year period from 2005 through 2012. The mechanical work was top-notch but the cosmetics were not up to my standards. Over the last several years, I've attempted to fix that.
Today, the car is simply spectacular after having been the recipient of more than $40,000 in restoration work between the previous owner and myself. The car wasn't restored to be sold at a profit. It was restored to be part of my personal collection with an emphasis on doing it right (as opposed to doing it cheaply) and I'm only selling this car because I have another silver/red mid-year in my collection and I need to make some space for some new arrivals.
The final stage of this restoration under my ownership was a 4-year project with literally every part of the car being evaluated and anything needing attention being refinished or replaced.I would not hesitate to drive this car across the country tomorrow. Along the way, I'd stop by a few tracks just for fun and I'd do my best to find and enter a local car show (which I would win). The car is just that good.
Following is more detailed information.
Mechanicals:The car starts, stops and drives exactly as you would expect from a car of this quality. It pulls hard and revs smoothly.The clutch is strong, the car brakes easily and in a straight line, and it runs cool with excellent oil pressure even in the 100+ degree Texas summer heat. The 915 transmission shifts precisely, with no unwanted noises, and you can easily downshift into first gear while rolling to a stop.The mileage of 113,001 is believed to be original but the car's documentation only goes back to 1999 and, quite frankly, the mileage is irrelevant on a restoration this extensive.The engine and transmission are, of course, numbers matching and original to the car.
Most of the major mechanical work was performed under the prior owner's direction with extensive work by the highly regarded John Walker's Workshop in Seattle, WA. The repairs included a full rebuild of both the engine and transmission completed less than 10,000 miles ago at 104,640 miles.
The engine build was extensive and receipts show a full-rebuild with the motor being balanced and crank polished by the Northwest's machinist-extraordinaireJeff Hines while the camshaft was ground to SC specs by Dougherty Racing Cams in Silver Springs, CA.
As you'd expect, during the rebuild the common 2.7 engine issues were addressed. These included the installation of a pop-off valve in the airbox, the upgrade of the chain tensioners to the later hydraulic tensioners, and the replacement of the thermal reactors and factory exhaust with earlier style heat exchangers and a Bursch sport muffler.
Of particular note is the electrical system - so often a source of frustration on a car of this vintage - but simply outstanding on this car. To my knowledge, everything in this car works. Every system, every switch and every bulb.
The tires on the car are brand new Vredestein Sprint Classics in the correct size of 185/70/HR15.
As a finishing touch, less than 200 miles ago the car was brought to Steve Henry at Eagle Racing where he installed a new set of turbo tie rod ends, performed a 4-wheel alignment, adjusted the valves, installed new valve cover gaskets, and did some final tuning on the ignition system.
While my mechanical write-up is extensive, there are literally dozens of details - both large and small - that are too numerous for me too list. They include new Koni shocks and struts, a new alternator, new brake calipers, motor mounts, hoses, clips, fasteners, nuts, bolts, gaskets, latches, lights, and so much more. Again, this car wasn't restored for a planned sale. It was restored as a personal car and meant to be driven and enjoyed.
Today the car is one of the best driving 911's I've ever owned. It exceeds my expectations every time I'm behind the wheel and it will exceed yours too.

Exterior:Over the last 4 years I've spent tens of thousands of dollars attempting to make the car as beautiful to look at as it is fun to drive. I can't promise I've succeeded (the car is just too much fun to drive) but I've come very, very close.
From every angle, the car presents beautifully in its original color of Silver Metallic (paint code 936). The professional, glass-out respray is glossy and beautiful with no dents, scratches or door dings.If you've ever heard good cars described as "10-footers" and great cars described as "5-footers" then this car is a 1-footer.There are less than 1,000 miles on the fresh paint and it's absolutely beautiful.
The glass on the car is excellent and all original with the exception of the front windshield which is brand new Sigla glass ordered at significant expense from Sierra Madre.
Every piece of trim on the car has been evaluated and refinished or replaced as necessary.The wheels were restored by Harvey Weidman with the correct anodized finish and black centers.
Every seal and piece of rubber on the car is brand new and was replaced with genuine Porsche parts. The taillight lenses, front turn signals, rear reflector and parking light lenses are all new. The headlights were upgraded to H4 assemblies and done correctly with a relay kit to handle the additional current. The driver-side mirror was replaced with an NOS unit. The decklid grill was professionally refinished. And on and on and on...
While no used car should ever be called "perfect", and I make no such claims here, I am immensely proud of this car and how it presents. I've taken it to several Porche events since I've completed the restoration and it always draws an appreciative crowd. Always.

Interior:The interior of this 911 is absolutely beautiful in it's original color of lobster red (or Russett Leatherette in 1970's Porsche-speak). When it was delivered from the factory in 1974, the front seating surfaces were originally optioned in tweed fabric. That fabric is no longer available so the front seating surfaces have been covered instead in matching and correct, embossed leatherette.
When I bought the car, the interior was only partially completed. The seats had been done, and done well, but virtually everything else needed attention. We stripped the interior bare and went to work using only the best materials.
First, we installed some strategic Dynamat to keep things quiet. Then we installed a new carpet kit from AppBiz. If you're familiar with the 74/75 cars, then you know that Porsche used a very unique style of carpet in these cars and only AppBiz makes a carpet kit that closely resembles the original.
Next, we removed the dash and sent it off the Autobahn Interiors for recovering. The gauges were removed and sent to Seattle Speedometer for repair and refinishing, and a period-correct, NOS Blaupunkt cassette deck was located and installed.
Every interior panel was cleaned, refinished or replaced. For the doors, we sourced brand new and correct vinyl door pockets from a specialist in Europe - the only person currently producing these unique door pockets with the slightly different 1974/75 profile. Every switch was evaluated and replaced as needed. Countless pieces of interior trim were replaced with genuine Porsche parts. The carpets are protected by a brand new set of matching red sisal floor mats from cocomats.com.
I've taken the time to provide multiple, close-up photos of the interior from every angle. Please examine them closely and pay attention to the details. Yes, the big things like the seats, and door panels all look excellent. But look even more closely at the small things. The interior details of this car are among the best I've ever seen and will exceed your expectations.
