1970 Porsche 911 911T Targa
1970 Porsche 911 911T Description
this is a 1970 Porsche 911T Targa VIN # 9110111018
this was literally a barn find that i pulled out of a barn in Tennessee
fortunately the rats didn't get to it
the owner moved to florida and left the car at his brother's place in TN and did not drive the car for 7 years. it had been 2 years since he started it. he never drove the car much. the owner before him also didn't drive the car much. he told me he believes it to have 101k original miles
the tub is very solid. the whole floor pan is rust free. there is a drain for the a/c that looks like rust but it is not. it has surface rust but is solid. the whole car is rust free except a spot on the rear bumper which as shown in pic. there is surface rust here and there, especially up in the front spare compartment, but i scraped it with a wire brush and the metal is solid all the way through. a good cleaning and POR15 would take care of it. the gas tank also has the coating peeling off, and it looks like it's really rusted, but it's all solid.
the car had some later flares added to the rear quarters. they were very well done and look factory. obviously the mirrors are from a later car also. the paint really needs a buff. it looks better in the pics than in real life. maybe even a wet sand. one front fender was done just to see what would happen and it actually came out pretty good. car has really good gaps. door shut with that familiar thud and don't hang or sag.
the interior is in pretty good shape. the dash has a couple cracks. the seats are in good shape. the carpet shows wear and could use replacement if you chose to. but it is usable as is. there is an aftermarket a/c unit up front. there is no compressor so it will not work. best to look at the pics and see for yourself.
the motor is a little bit of a mystery. the engine case part # ends in 2R but i have an invoice for a rebuild back in 1990 and they used 2.7 pistons and cylinders as per the part numbers on the invoice. the case is one of those unstamped cases so it does not have a serial number on it. Porsche used to sell replacement cases back then and they were not numbered. the weber carbs need to be taken apart and cleaned out. the motor does run but very rough. like i said, it needs the carbs cleaned and a tune up. when you open the throttle is revs up nice but sputters at low throttle. it sounds nice and strong when it revs up.
the transmission is type 911/01 serial 7118007 making it a 1971 911S and 911E 5 speed transmission. it is very clean and appears to be either rebuilt or freshly cleaned. it goes through the gears fine. could use some new shifter bushings
the rims are oem fuchs 16 x 6 & 7's. the tires are old and need to be replaced
the brake calipers stick and will need to be redone.
aside from those things, the car is actually solid and even though it may sound like a lot, it would not take much to get this car back on the road. so it is sold as a project.
i have some receipts and invoices from previous owners. tool kit comes with the car.
