I am selling my 1986 Porsche 928, as I have recently bought a 911 convertible. The car has went through a majorrestoration as you can see from the pictures and the items noted blow. The only reason I am selling is my wifejust wasn't a lover of the 928. The car is in great shape as you can see from the pictures, and you will not find another one that looks this good on the market today.
I purchased the care in November of 2017. The car was previously owned by a 928 enthusiast that had owned 928’s for over 30 years. He purchased the car in California for his wife to have one to drive. Under his ownership he did the following maintenance:
Did a top end refresh that included new plugs, filters, distributor cap, etc.
Replaced the timing belt at 115,000 miles four years ago
Converted the AC to 134A and rebuilt the head unit
Since purchasing I have made the following improvements:
Exterior
Repainted the exterior of the car
Refinished the wheels
Interior
Installed new carpet
Had seats redyed
New Lloyd floor mats
Tinted windows (50%- Classic look)
New Kenwood Bluetooth Stereo with Rockford Fosgate Speaks (all in factory position, no aftermarket wiring) Original look.
Had center armrest rewrapped with matching vinyl due to original being cracked.
Mechanical/ Maintenance
Replaced the front two tires (back ones were still good and all do match) BFG’s
Had alignment completed
Replace rear hatch motor for trunk
Replaced windshield washer pump and rebuilt windshield washer tank
Replaced air filter and had oil changed at purchase in November 2017
Replaced passengers side seat motor
Known Defects Remaining
Dashboard is cracked- Very common in all Porsche’s. It is covered by a premium dash blanket.
Cruise control does not function. I never fixed since I never drove it long distances
Heater control valve doesn’t open. Again, very common in every 928. Most people just “tie-wrap” them open or closed depending on whether they want A/C or heat. I have a replacement, but have just never installed it.
Just a few other items to note, the abs light comes on due to the drivers rear sensor being bad. Unfortunately they no longer make this sensor, and this is a very common fault in 928s. There are three paint defects that were missed during the repainting and i have taken picture of them. They are very minor but i wanted to provide a full disclosure. There are two small holes beside the ashtray where the previous owner had a back up camera mounted. Drivers side rear tail light lense has crack. These can be seen in the pictures of the stereo.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
