1974 Porsche 911 Carrera RS Tribute Description
1974 Porsche 911 Carrera RS Tribute
This 1974 Porsche 911 shows 56k miles and was built as an RS tribute car by it's second owner who was a professional mechanical engineer. It remained with the second owner from 1975 until late 2017. He spent many hours on the build, which he completed in 1996. As described by his neighbor and wife, this 911 was his passion. The original numbers matching 2.7-liter flat six was carefully rebuilt to RSspecificationsand runs strong with 160-165psi compression readings as shown in the gallery below. 16″ Fuchs alloy wheels, Carrerascripts and a front-mounted oil cooler has been fitted along with black leather upholstery andaftermarket steering wheel. Original books, original window sticker, parts and servicereceipts, engine build photo and engine dyno sheet from the engine rebuild process are included in the sale, and the car is offered with a clean Michigan title. The Silver Metallic finish was applied in 1994 and paint meter readings confirm no areas of thick body filler. Meter readings are shown in the 100+ photo gallery below. Rear steel fender flares were professionallyinstalled, before the car was stripped, e-coated and repainted in it's original Silver Metallic color. No dents or dings were found during our exterior body inspection. Note the slim rear bumperettes which were a 1974-only feature for the US market.
The 16″ Fuchs alloy wheels wear Continental Extreme DWtires. Excellent brakes with cross drilled brake rotors are installed. Bilstein shocks are installed at all four corners. Suspensionfeel andalignment felt just right during our test drive. The cabin is trimmed in full Black leather upholstery.Several options were added during the build process, including power mirrors, power door locks, cruise control, center console with digital compass and voltmeter andpartially installed a/c.
All instrumentationisin working order. The odometer presently indicates 56,173 miles and is thought to be the mileage since the1996 build. Note the tachometer exchange to indicate the correct 7200rpm redline for a 2.7 RS engine.
The numbers-matching 2.7-liter flat-six, rebuilt to210HP RS specs,is mated to a 915 transaxle. A photo of the engine during the rebuild andprintedgraphfor the dyno test (190HP measured at the rear wheels which is correct for 210HP at the crank), performed by Paul's High Performance in Jackson, MI shortly after the rebuild was completed, are shown in the photo gallery below. The MFI pump was correctly calibrated to 019 RS specifications during the engine rebuild and the correct 911S intake stacks are installed. Thesound ofa 2.7RS MFI engine during acceleration is truly amazing. The car's last service in early 2018 included full tuning of the mechanical fuelinjection (MFI), oil and filter change, new shift bushings, new spark plugs, new battery, throttle linkage adjustment, repack wheel bearings and emergency brake adjustment. Worth noting that the prior owner always used Mobil 1 synthetic oil, since the engine was rebuilt.
