1987 Porsche 911 Carrera Description

This 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera targa has been restored over the last couple of years with retro styling modifications that tap into Porsche's racing heritage.

The original mileage was 125k before restoration. Since completion in May of 2018, the car has been driven approximately 600 miles. This unique 911 is sold with a clean CA title and receipts for all the new parts, machine shop, tires, corner balance/wheel alignment, and CA smog certificate.

A complete list of all replaced and refinished parts is available.

Mechanical Restoration

Engine

The restoration started with having the top end of the engine rebuilt due to a couple of broken dilavar head studs that are prone to failure. This resulted in not only having the studs replaced but a valve job was performed, the cylinders were honed, the pistons cleaned, and new piston rings installed. All gaskets, seals, oil lines and hoses, sensors, and timing chain ramps were replaced. Since the 87 model already had increased factory performance enhancements and had an extra 10 HP from the year before, the engine was kept stock with the exception of turbo style camshaft line fittings for increased oil pressure. The desired G50 Getrag transmission with limited slip differential was cleaned and had an oil change. A new updated clutch was installed along with new master and slave cylinders. All engine sheet metal was powder coated before installation and a new engine bay insulation pad was applied.

Suspension and brakes

All suspension and brake components were either replaced or rebuilt including bearings, bushings, rotors, calipers shocks and struts. All original steel suspension parts were powder coated before installation. The ride height was lowered for better handling and the OEM shocks and strut inserts were replaced with Bilstein parts for aiding in additional performance. 17" Cup style wheels were added with new 255" wide tires in the back and 205 on the front. Adjustable swaybar links were installed that replace the fixed original parts to ensure zero preload on the torsion bar. After the installation was finished, the corners were balanced and the wheel alignment completed by Mirage International in San Diego.

Exhaust

Most of the stock exhaust setup remains, but a new 1-in-1-out smaller muffler is responsible for the throaty sound of the car. A new catalytic converter is added, the tail pipe is exiting through the bumper and it's finished with a carbon fiber tip.
