1985 Porsche 911 Carrera Description

Powertech Select is pleased to present this track-ready air-cooled 911! It is a 1985 911 Targa with numbers matching, finished in Black with Black interior and has many track-oriented upgrades such 993 Turbo “Big Red” Brakes, Kolkeln sway bars front and rear, and a B&B exhaust system.

This Targa had its engine rebuilt by Powertech in Rockaway, NJ less than 1,500 miles ago, and the transmission refreshed and new clutch replaced about 2,500 miles ago. Powertech also just installed a new battery and set of Sumitomo tires.

Key invoices of the rebuild can be found in the gallery and are included with the sale of the car. It has a clean Carfax, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and will be sold with a clear New Jersey title.

This is a mechanically extremely well sorted 3.2 liter Carrera. It has been set up for the track, where it has primarily been driven since 1995. The modifications result in it pulling very hard for a 3.2 liter.

All the track driving has resulted in the stone chips, scratches, paintwork, etc. as pointed out in the picture gallery. The interior is in good shape with the exception of the dash and rear deck pulling/discoloration and the drying/wear of the driver's seat bolsters.

Below is a listing of the modifications:

Engine: fresh rebuild 3.2 by Powertech
– B&B headers, stainless heat exchangers and exhaust
– K&N intake and chip flashed and dyno’d
– Front oil cooler
Transmission: rebuilt in 2007
Suspension: bilstein sports
– Kolkeln sway bars front and rear
– Torsion Bars: 23mm Front and 30mm Rear
– Strut brace and targa belt brace (removable)
Brakes:
– 993 turbo (Big Red) brakes front and rear
– 66mm studs
– Wheel spacers for newer 17? Porsche wheels
Body:
– Aftermarket front valence and rear bumper

The 1985 911’s came from the factory with 207 hp and 192 ft/lb of torque. This targa was dyno’d in 2007 after the first rebuild, showing a significant jump over the stock engine. The result was 234 hp and 206 ft/lb of torque at the wheels. Assuming a 15% drive train loss, this equates to an estimated 276 hp and 243 ft/lb of torque at the flywheel.

The car comes with maintenance records since 2000, summarized as follows:

2016-2018: Engine rebuild (including oil and filter change, spark plugs, etc), new fuel filter and tank, replace front oil cooler, etc.

June 2009: Replace oil pressure and level sender and flywheel sensors

Feb 2008: Oil and filter change, replace rear wheel bearings, brake fluid flush and alignment

Oct 2007: Replace 3rd and 4th gear teeth, syncros and operating sleeve, install new clutch and resurface flywheel and install new gear oil. Install rebuilt stater

April 2007: Engine break in service, install new front suspension bushings, install new studs in front hubs and repack front bearings, install new front 993TT rotors, alignment, install tie rod bump steer kit.

April 2007: Engine rebuild (including oil and filter change), install new ignition coil, brake fluid flush

July 2000: Repair damage to 4th gear

April 2000: Replace 1st and 3rd gear teeth, 1-2 and 3-4 shift sleeves and 1-5 syncros. Install new clutch in resurface flywheel

This car is NOT garage queen, but it is an outstanding, fun driving car that is loud, stiff and perfect for someone looking for an air-cooled track car or get into a 3.2 liter air-cooled Porsche on a budget.
