1968 Porsche 911 -- Description

1968 Porsche 911 Coupe Originally Irish Green 2.7L “S” Motor from 1976, 915 5spd Manual Steel Turbo-Look Flares VIN: 11835110 11: 911 8: Model Year 1968 3: 911 Coupe 5110: Serial Number Engine #: 6560790 6: 6 Cylinder 5: 911S/Carrera California, Type 911/44 6: Model Year 1976 0790: Serial Number Engine Modifications: Updated chain tensioners Paint: Irish Green (6806) We’re selling this ‘68 911 forward-date on behalf of a local gentleman who has owned the car for the last two years, having purchased it out of California. While maybe not the car for Porsche purists, we... like this car for its grab-it-by-the-scruff, driver-centric nature, which we don’t often see anymore with these earlier cars. While this car is super clean from a cosmetic perspective, the point of it isn’t to be a show car, it’s to be able to get in, wind it out, and enjoy the fruits of a hot 2.7L flat-6. As it sits now, this is a nicely sorted driver that is ready to be enjoyed as-is, or could also serve as a great platform for someone looking to get creative and make it into their own short-wheelbase 911 hot rod. Exterior: - Please see the video along with the listing, as the car is shown in detail. Blemishes are all shown close-up, though there are few. Blemishes include a few very minor chips along the driver’s rocker, as well as slightly tired-looking, partially cracked tail light lenses. Overall, an extremely clean car. Weatherstripping is very nice and appears close to new. Glass is all clear and crack-free. - Originally Irish Green, one of our favorite early 911 colors, the car was repainted red somewhere along the line. Paint presents nicely, with no tape lines, dust nibs, or orange peel. - Panel fitment of the fiberglass deck lid isn’t great; it sits a little higher slightly than would be ideal. Doors open and close nice and smoothly. Karmann tags are still present in the door jamb. - Body is bone dry, with no bubbling, blistering, or cracking to be found. - Polished Fuchs look great. No oxidation, scuffs/scratches, or other damage. Falken tires are in excellent shape and the DOT number indicates they were manufactured in 2012. Interior: - Again, please take a look at the photos and video. Interior is in nice shape overall. Imperfections include headliner tears where the C-pillars meet the body line, as well as a slightly ill-fitting dash pad (one of the push clips/fasteners on the passenger’s side doesn’t click in, so the dash top sits a little higher than would be ideal, very much fixable). - Seats are fantastic. Fronts were recently reupholstered, and are free of any scuffs, punctures, or observable wear. Fold-down rear seats are in nice shape as well. - Grey carpeting is excellent throughout. No stains or signs of wear to note. - Kenwood radio is not functional. - While the gauges are functional, we do not know actual chassis mileage. Odometer reads 02309, and the engine is not original to the car anyway. Mechanical / Underbody: - Please take a look through the underbody photos, as the car is documented in detail. This car looks very nice underneath. Floors appear to be all original metal, which is great to see. The only spot we can see any previous rust repair is the front pan, and a close-up photo is provided in the listing. - The car runs and drives very well. It’s just what you’d want from a 911 hot rod – it’s quick, lively, and sounds angry. The car fires right up, idles cool and steady, pulls hard through the gears with no stuttering or hesitation, shifts smoothly, and the suspension is nice and tight with no rattles, shakes, pulling under acceleration/braking, wandering at speed, etc. A car that likes to be wound out and driven with gusto. Please inquire for a video of the car being put through its paces out in the country, and we will email that to interested parties.
