I am selling this car for a friend. I have been involved with classic automobiles for almost 40 years. I have built and restored many Corvettes and Porsches and am a member of numerous car clubs including PCA & 356 Registry & NCRS. I have judged at many of the top concour events in and around Southern CA. This is a stellar, turn-key replica Speedster at the highest-level of build quality. I hesitate to call the car concour because it has been driven, but it is indeed in #1 condition as it is almost brand new with less than 1600 miles on the clock. The build quality on this particular JPS Carrera is phenomenal to say the least. Let me emphasis that this was not a kit that was purchased and built by a Dad and son in the garage, this car was completely custom built to the owner’s specs by JPS Motorsports over an eight month period. In the video I mention it was built in 2017, but it actually was just delivered last year.

This car has been maintained to a very high level since purchased. It has always been garaged and covered and has never been hit or damaged and still wears every inch of its factory original paint. Never seen a drop of rain.

I have driven many real Speedsters and 356’s over the last 40 years and I own an original Intermeccanica Speedster, built in Santa Ana in 1979. I also own a real C Coupe and a B Roadster. Unequivocally this car is the most fun car to drive out of all of them. It handles like a go-cart on rails with incredible acceleration in a lightweight roadster. The steering and braking are precise and top notch. The 230 horses in a water cooled Subaru motor pulls like a little freight train. The solid close-ratio shifter is an absolute blast with a extremely precise and accurate feel. The car is extremely comfortable and has plenty of leg room for a person up to 6’4”.

The body and paint on this car are a 10 out of 10. The body was fastidiously blocked and blocked and blocked again before paint was applied to the panels. Normally these glass cars have a “tinge” of ripple or a lumpy effect in the fiberglass, but not on this car. This body looks as flat as a steel original Speedster. You simply cannot hide anything in black paint. The fact that this car is painted black and has this look is a testament to the JPS build quality and their commitment to make the cars look as real as possible.

I have looked at hundreds of Becks, Intermeccanica’s and Vintage Speedsters over the years and I always know instantly it is fiberglass at first glance; there is always some imperfection in the fiberglass body or poor shut-line fit or textured “tell” to the body. The first time I saw this car at a local show and saw the “Beehive” tail-lights from a distance I thought for sure it was an original Speedster. I was immediately drawn to it as were many others. When this car shows up at Cars & Coffee people follow it to its parking destination.

I took closeup pictures of every piece of this car and you will not find one area of inconsistency in this body or in the paint. Take a look at my close-up shut-line photos and notice the gaps to be exactly the same thickness all the way around the car; the hood, the trunk, the doors. The edges of the doors, hood, trunk, fenders and body edges were precision sanded; smooth and perfect. Nothing worse to me than when a car is painted nicely but the edges are filled with rough sand paper marks. The body “looks” concour from fifty feet to right on top of the car. The closer you get to this car the nicer it is. I know some people just don’t like replicas and I can get that on some level, but this is the kind of car that just simply makes you stand up and respect the build quality and attention to detail everywhere you look. And if you really like to “drive” a car, this thing blows away any original Speedster in performance and overall thrill of experience. This is the kind of car you make up reasons to go drive it everyday.

The paint is flat and mirror-like with not a trace of orange peel anywhere to be found. The two-stage paint matches in color and consistency all around the car. This car had to have been color sanded a good 60+ hours to come out this level of excellence. After a year and a half of application there is incredibly no shrinkage anywhere on this body. This is a real testament to the craftsmanship of their body and paint guys, at least on this car.

Top drawer Ditzler paint was applied at the factory and really compliments the striking beauty of this unique vehicle. This is the nicest body and paint I have personally ever seen on any replica Speedster. You will not be disappointed in this area whatsoever. The car simply pops amidst a sea of cars at any show venue. When you open the engine lid and see the stainless and chrome Subi motor it just draws you in.

The interior features super high quality soft leather hides on all surfaces; the seats, door panels and dash. The carpet is a high-quality pleated style in black. The color of the interior is what I would call a medium tan color. Some of my pictures were taken during the sunniest part of the day and make the interior look a little lighter than it really is. (Note: the first picture of the interior is a seat, that is the truest color of the interior) This is a solid medium tan, which is a very rich look with the black exterior. The interior is in perfect original condition.

Carrera styling cues were added at the factory, including Carrera badging, louvered rear deck lid and a killer stance. It was set up to to have a nice low stance, sits almost flat from front to back. It just has a great look from every angle.

Interior features include original vintage style gauges that appear identical to Speedster gauges from the mid 50’s. A wood Nardi wheel accents nicely against the tan interior and is punctuated by the Porsche logo horn button.

This car is simply one of the most fun cars I have ever driven in my life. The fuel injected engine comes to life instantly with the slightest turn of the key. The engine sounds amazing with a killer custom exhaust installed by JPS. The sound is intoxicating as you cruise around in this little gem.

The power band in this water-cooled Subaru motor built by JDM is astounding. The 230 horse power rated motor turns a Speedster style roadster into a little road-rocket. And with the addition of a really cool close-ratio style shifter you feel as if you are driving a modern race-car. Don’t get me wrong, I love my old Porsches, but there is no comparison driving a modern technology build like this to the originals; unless Rod Emory and $300,000 is employed.

The Sony Stereo AM/FM Receiver adds all the conveniences of modern technology with Bluetooth for hand-free phone and playing your music. It is also configured for SiriusXM. Awesome speaker hidden discreetly make for a wonderful symphony of music even with the top down.

Modern disc brakes and air condition combine to make this an easy boulevard cruiser that car be used everyday in any kind of traffic situation. It will never overheat or leave you stranded. It will keep up with modern Porsches if you are thinking of using this for Rallies.

There is nothing like a lightweight open-roadster that has performance and styling. Whether you are looking for a daily driver, a show car or a car to travel cross-country, this JPS Speedster checks all the right boxes.
