Time Capsule: 2,000 Mile 1990 Baltic Blue Porsche 944 S2
This 1990 Porsche 944 S2 shows 2,000 documented original miles and isfinished in Baltic Blue Metallic over a dark blue partial leather interior.
Acquired by the seller with an unheard of 1,960 original miles, this one driver 1990 944 S2 was originally delivered by Valenti Porsche in Watertown, Ct. to Dr. Elliot Rosen as a medical school graduation gift in in October of 1990. Driven sparingly over the three years of his residency and last registered in 1993 with 1,800 documented miles, the Porsche had been stored in a heated garage for almost 30 years until its recent acquisition and careful sympathetic recommissioning.
The 944 S2 shared aerodynamic bodywork with theTurbo model including a flush front bumper, underbody trays, rear diffuser, and rocker extensions. The S2 featured a new, larger 3.0-liter engine (the largest displacement 4-cylinder engine in its era) with dual overhead cams and 16 valves producing 208 hp when new. Coupled with a revised transaxle gearbox to make use of the 207 lbs/ft of torque the S2 offered almost perfect weight distribution for exceptional handling.
Total production of 1990 944 S2 delivered to North America was only 449 units. Baltic blue is an exceedingly rare color with purportedly less than 30 examples imported in blue on blue.
The factory options decal notes: cruise control, alarm, air conditioner, ABS, sunroof and 4 way electrically controlled partial leather seats as the included options.
Likely a dealer demo, the original sales invoice notes 233 miles at the time of purchase and amazingly the trip odometer appears to have been set to zero at purchase and never reset again having turned over once at 999 miles.
Carfax only shows the recent purchase as well a New York State inspection, as the car had been truly tucked away since 1993.
Upon acquisition, the first light of day inspection found the car to be in incredibly original condition with the original cosmoline intact on the undercarriage.
The cosmetics are as one would expect with almost no wear. The dash and interior are blemish free, the Design 90 wheels are as new and all of the rubber and trim remained subtle and bright. All glass is clear and delamination free. As discovered, the car was free of stone chips or significant dings, dents or scratches. The seller noted some clearcoat discoloration on the hood due to tree sap, which likely sat on the car for a decade or longer at the time of purchase, which has since been remediated. Photos and video of the car prior to any detailing is provided as proof of condition as acquired.
Upon delivery the seller had prepared the car for use with preventative service by cleaning the gas tank and all lines, replacing the fuel float, filter and fuel pump as well as plug wires. The car was then transferred to Porsche expert Bill Rudtner of South Shore Performance, who after a thorough inspection, recommended and performed a major service complete with belt service, flushing and replacement of all fluids, ultrasonic injector cleaning, distributor cap, plugs and new Dunlop Direzza DZ102 tires. The test miles since recommissioning have shown the car to drive as close to new as one could ever expect with a tight chassis, free revving engine, and all of the sights, sounds and smells of a new car.
Paint correction, cut and polish were performed by a BASF Glasurit specialist bodyshop which included removing the aging stone guards. All signs of the beforementioned tree sap discoloration have been carefully resolved through wetsanding the clearcoat and reapplication of Glasurit clear.
The car is offered with the original title, original registration, 1993 registration, Both sets of keys with the original dealer inventory key tag, dealer model and trim brochures and complete original unused tools and drivers manual.
