1984 Porsche Carrera Coupe - 125K miles
I purchased this car in July 2013 with intentions of keeping it longer but I just do not have the time to drive it as much as I’d like to. Since purchasing the car, I have put about 5,000 miles on it. I looked hard for a long time before I came across this car and had to have it the minute I saw and drove it. It has been a pleasure to take on some long road trips and to local Porsche events.
EXTERIOR
The paint on the car is overall good condition. It presents itself very well and looks great. I believe the current color is Nougat Brown. According to the sticker on the inside of the trunk lid, the car is an original paint to sample car (L999 paint code). At some point early on in it’s life, the car had a vey good repaint which included the engine bay, trunk and all the jambs. There are some very small traces of the original color in case you ever want to bring it back to it's original "paint to sample" color. The body is free of dings and dents with exception to the front bumper and bits of the nose area where it has the expected rock chips typical to these cars. The car has 16x7 Fuchs up front and 16x8 in the rear. I had new Continental Extreme Contact tires mounted shortly after purchasing the car – 205/55ZR16 up front and 225/50ZR16 in the rear. The car is fitted with the factory lower valence and the factory Carrera tail package. This setup drastically changes the way the car handles and feels at high speeds. The sunroof opens and closes super fast with no hesitation. The H4 headlights are free of cracks and work really well at night.
INTERIOR
The interior for the most part on this car is original. The dash has a couple cracks which can be repaired by sending the dash to Just Dashes in Van Nuys. Another alternative is to have an upholstery shop recover it in vinyl or leather. The gauges all work with exception to the clock. I have a dash mat I place on the dash when parked to protect it from getting worse. When I purchased the car, it had a real ugly aftermarket steering wheel so I replaced it with an all black Momo Prototipo. Door panels are in good shape, all switches work. The carpet and floor mats are original and in good condition. Front seats were properly redone by the previous owner and back seats are in like new condition. The headliner has a small tear but can be patched from the inside through the sunroof access zipper. The original radio was replaced at some point as were the speakers. A/C works, but is typical 80’s era technology so don’t expect it to work like a new car. Heater system works excellent and warms the interior right up on a cold day. The trunk is very tidy and clean. The trunk shocks do not hold, but replacement ones are included with the car.
MECHANICALS
I’ve had other Porsche’s in the past and none other drove like this car. The engine is very tight and runs/drives as it should. The engine and transmission do no leak any oil. According to invoices that came with the car, the engine was gone through back in 2007. Not many miles have been put on since. In January, I performed some service work on the car: new spark plugs, Mahle fuel filter, Mahle oil filter, Mahle air filter, Valvoline VR1 20W50 motor oil, etc.. At that time I also replaced the front rotors with new Zimmerman rotors, ATE brake pads, and rebuilt front calipers. The car runs, drives, and stops great. Transmission and differential were serviced in January as well with Swepco gear oil. Suspension feels as it should. Shocks were replaced by the previous owner.
MISC
The car comes with all the books, and manuals in the original pouch, jack, factory tool kit, and tire compressor. Included with the car are service records going back to the early 90’s. The previous owner gave me various accessories too which come with the car as well (dash/steering cover, mirror covers, misc. mats, and visors. In addition to those items there is a new Bosch distributor cap and rotor, DME relay, and Bosch regulator.
The car is currently titled and registered in my name with a clear California title. I will provide a smog certificate for in state California buyers. The car is being sold in as is, where is condition with no warranties.
A $1,000.00 non-refundable deposit is due within 24 hours after the auction ends. The balance must be paid in full no later than 7 days after auction ends. I will accept bank check/wire transfer as method of payment for the balance. The car will not be released until it has been paid for in full
