1988 Porsche 944S
1988 Porsche 944 S Description
My 1988 944S is for sale here on EBay and locally as well. I reserve the right to end the listing at any time. My 944S is being sold as is where is with no warranties expressed nor implied. Now that's out of the way, this is a fantastic driver, with all of the necessary maintenance and belt change outs performed. The top end was completely rebuilt by a known Porscheshop in 2006, at 117K miles. This 944S drives beautifully with a new set of adjustable Konis up front, and a set of Bilsteins on the rear. It has the optional LSD transmission, which greatly improves handlingwhen you're at the limit of this car's ability. A new set of Toyo Extensa HP tires are on the OE16" wheels, as well as new brake rotors and pads, a battery, plugs, fuel filter and pressure regulator. I have also recentlyrebuilt the injectors, and flushed the brake fluid. Again, the car drives beautifully, at any speed. The 16 valve motor is strong and pulls hard all the way to redline. It's a fun driver for sure. Here's a quick write up on the 944S:
This marked the first use of four-valve-per-cylinderheadsand DOHC in the 944 series, derived from the 928S4 featuring a redesigned camshaft drive, a magnesium intake tract/passages, magnesium valve cover, larger capacity oil sump, and revised exhaust system. The alternator capacity was 115 amps. The wheel bearings were also strengthened and the brake servo action was made more powerful. Floating 944 calipers were standard, but the rear wheel brake circuit pressure regulator from the 944 turbo was used. Small '16 Ventiler' script badges were added on the sides in front of the body protection mouldings. Performance was quoted as 0 – 100km/h (62mph) in 6.5 seconds (Best) and a 232km/h (144mph) top speed due to a 2857lb weight. It also featured an improved programmed Bosch Digital Motronic 2 Computer/DME with dual knock sensors for improved fuel performance for the higher 10.9:1 compression ratio cylinder head. Like the 944 Turbo, the 944S received progressive springs for greater handling, Larger front and rear anti-roll bars, revised transmission and gearing to better suit the 2.5L DOHC higher 6800 rpm rev limit. Dual safety air bags, limited-slip differential, and ABS braking system were optional on the 944S.
This is a highly optioned car:C42 US/Non California, 158 Radio Blaupunkt Reno, 220 Limited Slip Differential, 418 Body Side Molding, 425 Rear Window Wiper, 454 Automatic Speed Control, 598 Insignia "16 Ventiler", 650 Sunroof, 946 Leather/Leatherette seats. You may have noticed there is a pair of optional sport seats in the car- I had them repadded and reupholstered and they are awesome. The factory Sport seats can be included in the sale of the 944S, or the OE seats can be reinstalled. Your choice.
Overall the interior is in very good shape, there is some carpet wear, and a crack or two on the dash near the windshield. The Air conditioning is operational and is ready for a recharge. I have not used it nor serviced it in the years I have owned this car. The exterior is in good shape, with some patina on the roof and sunroof, right front fender, andstone chips on the front end. I have receipts for the motor work, all the factory books, with VIN sticker in the warranty book and noted warranty service interval stamps. All will be included in the sale of the 944S. All the lights work perfectly, inside and out, on the dash display as well. As it is a 1988, it has dual air bags. I have listed this car at $10.2 with offers welcome. While the 944's are no great shakes to a lot of the Porsche guys out there, this one is pretty special in it's combination and it's well above the early NA's in value, and below a well sorted 951. I would like to see it go to a good home. Please feel free to ask questions via email or by calling during the daytime EST at 301.648.5510.
