I’m selling my much loved project of 7 years. While in Tennessee I lived on 6 acres with a wonderful 30x40 shop. I have now moved to the Houston area and the new home is on a conventional lot with little space, so my Porsche 928 Renegade must go.
History: The 928was purchased in Kentucky. The mileage on the vehicle is correct. The owner had failed to have the timing chain changed and therefore the Porsche engine was lost. The body, however was perfect for the Renegade conversion. I have several photos of the car from beginning to where it is today and more available by email if requested.
Engine: Dart SHP Block. 4.155 bore; SCAT forged crank 3.875" Stroke; SCAT Forged 6" Rods; Probe SRS forged pistons. Engine is 10.8:1 static compression and runs strong on 93 octane. Assembled cost: $9,500 This is a serious engine and capable of over 600 HP.Notes on the build: The vehicle was originally set up for an EFI. The version of the Powerjection EFI I purchased was seriously flawed and I eventually returned it for a refund. When I changed out the EFI and went to a Holly 650 double pumper carb, I also changed the intake manifold at that time from single plane to dual. The high pressure fuel pump is still onboard and ready to go should you want to change back to EFI. The engine has just been (Dec 2020) professionally tuned by Supreme 1 in Friendswood, TX.Supreme 1 is known for their work on everything from race cars to high-tech military vehicles.NOTE:While I was having the car tuned we also replaced the clutch so you will receive that in prefect working condition. The transmission is the much improved 5 speed manual Borg Warner design. Custom headers that have been coated. Full 3” dual exhausts with ball flanges to reduce vibration.
Body: Design par Jacquemond (France) The body was purchased and flown to Nashville. $12,000
Interior: Custom work in Columbia TN (see photos) All new interior plus machine stitched Porsche logo on seats and rear gas tank cover $7,000. Note the dash is original and perfect, no cracks (see photos)
Other: The wheels, tires, brakes, calipers, struts, radiator, v-belt pulley system, etc are all new. The old “flag” mirrors were replaced with the later model design. All the windows and the sun roof work. Windows have been tinted. Great custom stereo system with two 10” subs built into the back. The car has a roll bar from 928 motorsports (see photos). All seats are electric and all functions working. Rear plug for charging and tow hook.
Misc. Yes, I have the wipers even though you don’t see them in the photos. I also have extra spacers for the wheels. The red paint you see is Dupont’s top of the line Hot hues paint at $950 per gallon (which makes 2 gallons). I got in too big a hurry to paint the car the first time without driving it primed for a while to see if any cracks developed in the fiberglass upgrades. As you can see from the photos I have made a few repairs to areas that had very small cracks and the car will now either need to be repainted or done in vinyl (which would look great). However, the sale comes with a full gallon of the Dupont paint (uncut so 2 ready to spray gallons) in the color you see along with thinner, retarders etc. I have a new Porsche badge that goes on the hood but has not yet been installed.
Total disclosure: Clear Tennessee Antique Car Title. The vehicle runs great and just tuned in December. New Clutch. In the years I have owned it I have not driven it 1,000 miles. It needs to be finished (small touch up bodywork and paint/vinyl see photos). You may want to do some fine transition work on the hood where scoop meets the hood.I’ve lost the energy to complete and don’t have the place to do it anymore. The hood release needs to be mounted on the drivers’ sidewall inside the car. It is currently laying on floor well but works. The engine compartment is AC capable (pulley system has AC) but has not been installed. Most of these conversions do not have AC so this is a plus if you need AC where you live. The car is sold AS IS. You are welcome to ask all the questions you want and can come see or send someone to come see the car with an appointments so please don’t bid if you don’t intend to buy.I have over $40,000 invested in this project and hundreds of hours. I’ve priced it to sell.
