1985 porsche 928S
1985 Porsche 928 Description
Info:
This is a black on black 1985 Porsche 928S with 79,000 miles and counting. My particular car has the 5 speed ZF transmission that is rare for this year range of 928. The '85 year has a 5.0 liter dual overhead cam V8 making 288hp. this is up from 231 the previous year. The previous years from 1980 were also "S" cars but were only S in appearance. It wasnt until '85 that the looks were backed up by as much performance. I'm happy to talk 928s and Porsches in general so don't hesitate to ask questions about the car. I've owned a number of 80's porsche "transaxle" cars(944, 951, 968) so I'm full of all kinds of useless knowledge.
The 928 is truly a unique car and qualifies as a true 80's supercar. The 1985 model was the fastest production car you could buy in the states. There is some great info out there about it and its history that I would encourage you to research to understand and fully appreciate the car if you are interested. Rennlist is a forum that is also full of great knowledge. I wouldn't actually be leaving the 928 world, as my plan is to find an early 928 in the '78 to '79 year range. (I'm very open to trades, but it must be a 5 speed.) I love my car and would keep it if I could afford to have both! I've owned the car 18 months and Im at the point where I've addressed all of the deferred maintenance. Before I went down the slippery "upgrade" slope(which I usually do...), I made the decision to hold out for an early car.
Maintenance performed in the last year:
Timing belt
new cowl cover trim
water pump
injectors cleaned and balanced
new distributors
new spark plugs
new ignition wires
new shocks front and rear
reconditioned gauge cluster by palo alto speedometer (oil pressure and volts were non functional.)
new fuel regulator
new vacuum lines
all new engine bay fuel lines
new windshield
fixed seat switches
changed transaxle fluid
new brake fluid
new coolant
new hatch receiver
cdr220 with aux input
replaced steering wheel for cosmetic reasons with another 4 spoke
new tps harness
new MAF
new O2 sensor
new cps
painted the intake during the full intake refresh
viscous fan clutch
Added a vdo temp gauge to replace the stock one in the cluster. wanted one that wasnt vague and had actual measurements. also has a vdo sender that matches the new gauge in place of the stock vdo sender.
new idle stabilizer valve
The car comes with receipts and records for all this work under my ownership.
The car does have some flaws:
theres some cracking of the paint around the headlight openings
the drivers seat has a worn bolster
the ac doesnt work
as noted, the temp gauge is disconnected in favor or a more accurate vdo gauge. it worked intermittently anyways
dash is in pretty bad shape. Ive got a plastic dash cover on there now that looks passable.
interior lights do not work.
I bought hood insulation but never got around to removing the hood to install.
Hagerty values are on the rise. I would say my car is a solid 3 in their valuation scale. This has risen from around 10 grand to over 16,000 in the past year.
Thanks for looking!
In reference to the autocheck report, this car did at some point have a damaged branding on its title. According to carfax (which I can include to anyone who is seriously interested in the car), the car was stolen in 1994 whereupon it received the title branding. I can only assume the car was recovered for the owner but only after the insurance payout. There are no signs of actual damage indicating a serious accident. I am told that a car that was recovered after payout will be labelled as "damaged" instead of "salvaged" in some states. The car currently has a free and clear North Carolina title and is fully insured. In fact it wasn't until this autocheck score that I even became aware of an issue at all. Feel free to contact me. Thanks!
