1960 Renault Caravelle Electric Conversion
1960 Renault Other Description
First 4 photos are of other Caravelles! This is a Project car - bad paint, rust, etc...The Good:Very very cool car. Removable hard top in good condition. Fairly complete classic ready for restoration.Early 1980's electric conversion. Had about 65 mile range and could do highway speeds. Set up with twelve deep cycle 6V batteries (four in rear, four in middle, four in front). Also has two 12v batteries in front to run accessories. 72V DC motor with relay based voltage control of motor. Motor is mated to original? manual drive train via adapter plate.
Some spare parts. I also have source for modern DC EV systems controllers for additional ~$500 if you want to go that way. (motor speed controller, charge control, etc).

In good condition, Renault Caravelle's go for more than $18,000 (if you can find one) - and their resale value is climbing quickly.
The Bad:Broken windshield, dead batteries, old tires (good tread but rubber is cracking). No documentation on the conversion. No information on condition of drivetrain - I bought it in 2006. It was driving at the time but I've had it up on blocks in a hanger ever since. Was going to be a restoration project, but health problems got in the way...
The Ugly:RUST, RUST, RUST! Some sections of complete through rust (front bottoms of doors - see pictures). Bad paint, a few small dents. Missing trim,OK at best upholstery. It also came with a weird home brew charger. Motor adaptor plate is magnesium? and showing corrosion.
It will have to be picked up by trailer.
