1977 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow II
The 1950's marked the start of a long-standing relationship between Rolls-Royce and the royal family. Replacing Daimler as the preferred motor car supplier to the British monarchy, Her Royal Highness Princess Elizabeth took delivery of the first Phantom IV in 1950. Designed exclusively for royalty and heads of state, the Phantom IV is was one of the rarest Rolls-Royce motor cars in the world, with only 18 ever built.
For consignment a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow II. This car is a long wheelbase saloon, with a left-hand drive. The odometer shows 25,098 actual miles, and car presents in overall good condition.
Exterior
Due to the nature of custom ordering special color schemes to personalize your car, exact colors are not known, so generic colors will be used in this description. This Silver Shadow sports the standard saloon Pewter color on the boot, bonnet and wings. A Cream padded vinyl top is seen in lieu of any paint on the roof of this car. The panels are fairly straight overall, and paint appears in good condition. Chrome is in good condition, and grille is clean and no pitting. The Spirit of Ecstasy is atop the grille. Paint is showing no rust on this car top or bottom.
Interior
Beige posh leather buckets are noted up front, and present in nice condition with their pewter piping. A rear bench with ample leg room is across the rear of the passenger compartment. The buckets flank a center console with padded vinyl sides, an aftermarket AM/FM/CD player, and various switches and toggles which are in a field of burl veneer. The finish on the veneer is nice and shiny with no cracks. The padded burl dash front houses several gauges, and shows well, and gauges and bezels are in good condition. Fronting the dash is the original steering wheel, which shows some paint chipping. Door panels covered in matching beige leather are in good condition, and one can spot toggle switches for power windows in the panels. Carpeting is by Wilton and is in overall very good condition. Headliner is in nice and tight. Noted is the retro style cell phone mounted to the central hump, for ordering out Grey Poupon
Drivetrain
A 189hp 6.75 Liter V8 power plant, coupled to a General Motors-sourced Turbo Hydramatic 400 automatic gearbox, pushes the car smoothly down the road. This engine is fed by Bosch Jetronic electronic fuel injection.
Undercarriage
The underside is clean and rust free. 4-wheel power disc brakes are seen, as well as an exhaust system that is in good condition.
Drive-Ability
Enveloped in a soundproof cabin, wrapped in luxurious leather and burl, who cares if it runs?! But indeed, it does and very well I might add. It started immediately, idled smoothly, and provided a lovely ride. So much so I requisitioned another test driver just so I could sit in the back and have the Chauffeur experience, and it did not disappoint. Right rear window was inoperable, as was the E-brake, but we simple cranked up the cold air and were just chipper. Lovely.
A great rust-free example, and it has a wonderful interior combination of leather, Wilton carpet and burl veneer. Plenty of conveniences, a smooth runner, and overall a really nice example. The color is beautiful, and to see no rust on one of these examples is rare. Call the midwife!
