Selling a beautiful 1974 Saab Sonett. It has been meticulously maintained, cared for and loved throughout its ownership. Been in the same family for the last 35 years. This family is the 2nd owner. Car was in Georgia for 10 years by the first owner and then eventually in Massachusetts. It has always been garaged and well-taken care of. Saab started out as a maker of airplanes and it just so happens that the 2nd owner was an airline mechanic and engineer. He treated this Saab with the same diligence that he did with airplanes.
There is no rust on the car, the rear trunk pan was replaced, the floors look good. After removing the seats and carpet we saw the floors were repaired at one point but are very solid and did not see any rust. Body is very clean for a 42 year old car. Of course it is fiberglass, so it shows some wear, but no major dents, cracks, or body damage, except for a crack in the passenger side door, which was slightly repaired. (see pics) However, we will include a door skin for replacement. It is in truly great shape, but it is not a museum piece, it is a car that is driven and enjoyed. Glass and lenses all in great shape, dashboard is perfect. Seats are all there, vinyl is excellent, cushion and back fabric could be replaced. Newer carpets were installed. Headliner is all vinyl and beautiful but currently sagging a bit. Door panels look good. Chrome is all good. Lights and signals seem to be working fine. Radio works well with after market bose speakers. Seatbelts and air horn work good. Rims have been refurbished and look good. Tires are functional but have some light rot. Car seems to brake fine. Shifts smoothly through all gears. Clutch has some play but doesn’t seem to affect performance. Truly a joy to drive and turns heads everywhere you go. No burning oil. We didn’t find any major leaks or fluid issues. Of course all cars this old drip a little but we have not detected anything to note. All switches seem to work. Windows roll down no problem. Doors, engine hood, and rear window all work and close good. All gauges seem to work fine, except gas gauge, but low gas warning light does work, so you will know when its time to refuel. We have some documentation from 54,853 to 65,000 of various repairs. It would be inferred that the same meticulous maintenance and care was giving throughout ownership because of these documents. Previous owner was in the New England Saab Sonett club. Car comes with two sets of keys and 2 spare wheels.
Car is great to drive, not too many of these rare classics are around these days. This will greatly appreciate in value. You can drive it, improve it and watch it appreciate. The engine seems excellent. Carb was upgraded with an oversized newer carb to enhance performance. Previous owner replaced the valve stems with harden stems, which also helps performance. Also glass pack installed for a beautiful, loud, but not obnoxious sound. Engine purrs. This numbers matching, original car is truly a beauty. Sad to let it go, but with my back issues, I don’t get to enjoy it enough. This car is where art, auto design, and performance all come together.
