This one-owner car was purchased from the well-known Factory Five Racing in Wareham, Massachusetts. Founded in 1995, Factory Five bills itself as the World’s Number One Selling Component Car Manufacturer of cars that are Built, Not Bought®. A man from neighboring Rhode Island designed and facilitated the entire build on this example, spending slightly more than $86,000.
Low-slung and featuring sumptuous lines, the car’s British Racing Green paint is lustrous and thick, and has a show-quality finish. Unlike a lot of other Shelbys, this example lacks racing stripes or decals that might otherwise detract from its appearance. Trim pieces include windshield wipers, plastic side and rear windows, a Cobra rearview mirror and gas cap.
The windshield is clear and crack-free and the car’s lights are in excellent order. The car rolls on Sumitomo HTR 352 radials, size 245/45ZR17 in front and brand new 315/35ZR17 in rear, surrounding new Shelby GT40 knock off style wheels. All of the body panels are straight and solid. The cargo area is in very good order and the engine bay is immaculate, with its aluminum firewall and Painless wiring.
Under the tilt-up hood is a 351 CID Ford Windsor V-8 engine with the following performance upgrades – Crane camshaft and aluminum rockers, Edelbrock aluminum heads, Weiand intake manifold, Holley high-performance fuel pump, Cobra valve covers, Edelbrock water pump, MSD Ignition and Griffin aluminum radiator with an electric fan. The engine breathes through dual side exit exhaust pipes. Backing the engine is a Ford C6 three-speed automatic transmission and a Ford Thunderbird differential. The undercarriage has been meticulously details and features a tubular Factory Five Racing frame. The car also has an aluminum gas tank and rear-mounted battery for better weight distribution. Driver convenience features include rack-and-pinion steering and four-wheel disc brakes. The suspension has been upgraded – the front has tubular control arms and coilovers while the rear is independent with coilovers.
Inside, the custom tan interior offers a roll cage, Simpson seatbelts, vinyl-wrapped instrument panel and racing seats, Auto Meter gauges, wooden Cobra three-spoke steering wheel, door-pull handles, B&M Quick Silver shifter and custom switches. This Shelby has recently undergone a complete service and detail. Nearly every surface inside is in near-excellent condition. This car has no radio.
Documentation includes Factory Five racing brochure and assembly manual; November 2000 issue of Kit Car Magazine, featuring this car on the cover; a photo diagram of the various center console switches; and a binder of invoices which total over $86,000 detailing the car’s creation plus installation instructions for certain parts.
