1965 Shelby Cobra Backdraft Description

Only 3,710 miles since new. Extremely well cared for. It has been extensively serviced in the last few hundred miles. Comes with a binder of documentation. This is car #001, the first car built by Back Draft Racing. They took 10 months building this one paying close attention to detail. Back Draft Racing (BDR) was founded by 2 world champion auto racers. They are now industry leaders in the reproduction Cobra market. Prices start at $42,900 minus engine, trans and... accessories. EXTERIOR: Slightly longer doors for easier in and out. Hand laid fiberglass body with a gorgeous Avis blue metallic with white stripes. PPG base coat- clear coat paint was polished out like it's wet. It's even slick to the touch. Features include the aluminum LeMans style pop up fuel cap, chrome bumpers ($600), bullet mirror and wing windows. It has stainless rivets in the hood to make it very authentic looking. The roll bar has grommets for the shoulder harness. It has windshield wipers and washers. This car has the optional convertible top ($2,000). Cleverly designed so the top rails come apart and fit in a storage bag in the trunk. It is black cloth, like new. It also has new side curtain windows. The wheels are authentic looking 15 inch Halibrand style with spinners and Goodyear tires. Look at how wide they are in back! It also includes bolt on stainless heat shields for the powder coated side pipes. INTERIOR: Larger cockpit then the original, comfortably seats a driver in excess of 6 feet. Genuine leather upholstery on the seats and door panels. Very nicely contoured seats. Driver side is on an adjustable track. Has full race harness for each seat. It also has original style shifter and deluxe wood wheel with aluminum spokes. Complete matched set of VDO gauges. It also has chrome extinguisher ($135), e-brake and original style door releases. Premium carpet with bound edges and matching mats. It's like brand new inside. ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Boss 302 Ford Motorsport crate motor. It produces 345 hp. They feature race quality components. Has forged pistons and rods, BOSS 4 bolt main block, roller cam, double roller timing, forged steel crank, Ford Racing GT-40 aluminum heads, roller rockers. New Edelbrock carb on an Edelbrock intake. Has MSD ignition with Pro Billet distributor. It uses a serpentine belt and pulley system. It runs cool thanks to an aluminum radiator with dual electric fans and a polished overflow tank. Its dressed up real sharp with finned Cobra valve covers and air cleaner. Has stainless firewall panels. In the last 700 miles the oil has been changed 3 times, new carb, new header gaskets, new antifreeze, thermostat, hoses, plugs and more. I leave the hood open in our showroom, it's a sharp looking motor compartment! TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Fully carpeted with bound edges. UNDERSIDE: Has powdercoated Backdraft built frame using 2x4 steel tubing and steel plates at stress areas. frame. It utilizes modern BMW 3 series suspension, independant front and rear. In front it has coil over struts, sway bar and rake & pinion steering. In back it is an IRS (independent rear suspension) with sway bar, multilink, control arms and longitudinal arm. The 5-speed Tremec trans was rebuilt, new synthetic fluid. Has hydraulic clutch- new master cylinder, throw out bearing, and slave cylinder. There are disc brakes at all 4 wheels, has e-brake. Recently new synthetic fluid in the rear and new inner sway bar bushings. This car is on Backdraft motorsports website, the guys there know the car. In 2016 they built 15 anniversary editions to celebrate their milestone, this car was pictured in the promotional literature and referenced as BDR #1. Condition is fantastic, has great history.
