Up for sale is my 1940 Studebaker K10 one ton pickup truck. It is serial number SK10 968. Studebaker made only 1000 total K10's in 1938 1939 and 1940 combined. I estimate that about 20 of these Raymond Loewy designed trucks survive. Just a few are restored. I purchased this truck about 5 years ago and it was the dream of my life to restore it to its original beauty. I have aged and am not sure I will be able to make that dream come true. This is a very complete truck with a very decent restorable cab and frame. The first photo shows it when I purchased it in Minnesota. The previous owner had it 25 plus years and he purchased it from a farmer in North Dakota I believe. I transported it to Southern California and got it titled, licensed and insured. I started a preliminary restoration and removed the non-original bed and rear fenders. I removed the cab from the frame as well as the front sheet metal. The truck was missing a few parts so I purchased a 1938 K10 in Colorado and brought that unit to Southern California also. I used from the 1938 donor truck the pickup bed sides, front bumper and brackets, rear bumper and brackets, tailgate and front bed panel, spare tire mount and heater (Studebaker model). At this point what is for sale is as complete truck as you will be able to find. The extra duplicate parts will be available to the purchaser if they want them for an additional cost. I also have a pair of California DMV clear 1940 YOM plates and Studebaker California Frames for additional cost if desired. I will not sell the additional parts until the complete truck is sold. I will list the extra parts at the bottom of this listing.
The condition of the truck; The cab and front sheet metal have been separated from the frame. The cab is one unit with the dash and gauges, heater, seat frames with some ratty fabric, some headliner pieces for patterns. The glass is there with some broken or cracked. The frame is quite good except for one rear spring hanger which will need to be bushed. The frame has the springs, brakes, tires and Clark 16" wheels, There are no hubcaps. The steering wheel and box are complete and in very restorable condition. The radiator is there and needs refurbishing. The 226 Studebaker engine is there but appears to be stuck. The transmission shifts. The bed sides are well used but will prove good for patterns for new metal sides. The tailgate and front bed panel also need to be remade.....but suitable pieces are there for patterns.
The front grill is complete but needs to be repaired and straightened. I do have a very correct hood ornament and top grill collar which are recasting's. The hood side "STUDEBAKER" pieces have been replated also. The gas tank is present but is not usable.
I hope this description helps you understand what the condition is. Please ask questions by calling me, Brian at 949 492-8702 M-F 8:00 to 4:00 pm.
The truck is sold as is where is with no warranty expressed or implied. This is available for local pick up only unless prior arrangement's are made before the end of the auction.
