1936 Studebaker Dictator Description

We are helping one of our customers and good friend of ours in listing this very nice 1936 Studebaker Dictator 4 door for sale on eBay. Steve bought this car several years ago and it was in many pieces. He took on the project of restoration and the reassembly of the many parts and it is coming together very nicely. However, it is time for him to do other things with his time and ask us to put it on eBay and find a new home and owner with the desire to see this project to a conclusion. This car has the solid front axle and the following description is what Steve had accomplished thus far on the project. He had a 1950 straight six from a Studebaker truck and since it was in good running order and just a later model engine he installed this engine in the car. The car has the original 3 speed manual transmission and it does start, run and can be driven around to move. During all of the reassembly he sand blasted the frame and repainted it. The floor pans and the trunk floor had a couple of rusted areas and he removed those and replaced with good metal. He has the original seats and the wooden arm rests but it all needs to be recovered but some fabric samples still remain intact so you can see what material was there if you are going to try and restore back to a factory interior. He cleaned the fuel tank and added a sealer compound just to make sure that it wouldn't leak and has it bolted back in place with the line going up to the engine compartment. He mentioned that he hasn't put any fuel back into the tank as he didn't want the gasoline just sitting in it and in the line at this point in time. He runs it from a one gallon can that is sitting in the engine compartment area so he can start it and move it around. The radiator was rebuilt and the system holds water and is in good working order. The exhaust is all new including the muffler and tailpipe. While the wheels have all been repainted and the hubcaps all polished the tires are just old original tires with new tubes just to be used to assist in moving the car around, not to be driven on at all with any speed. The body work is all completed and he commented that the car had never been repainted and the body was quite sound. He decided on going with a nice tu-tone light and medium gray colored finish. The pictures look a little bit more blue than the car actually is. He polished all of the original stainless steel trim such as the handles and the bright trim on the sides of the hood. The grill trim is also a stainless surround with the vertical pieces all redone in liquid chrome along with the hood ornament. The bumpers are painted silver and were in good condition. The running boards have not been touched yet and are all original and need to be recovered in some fashion. He had all new glass for the entire car and new weather stripping for all of those windows. He also has a new trunk lid weather stripping installed. Nothing done for door weather stripping at this point. While the interior all needs to be redone the instrument panel is all in good condition and in good working order. All of the lights work and he rewired the complete car retaining the original 6 volt system. The original Studebaker emblems on the front and on the rear of the car are in very good condition. Steve loves old Studebakers, he has owned several but feels that this one can be completed as a very original type unit or at a stage where a street rod application can take on the project and finish it up.
