Back up for sale - 1953 Studebaker Commander 2 dr coupe. 232 V8 engine. 3 on the tree manual transmission. Originally an Ivory Mist exterior color, now painted a bold red many years ago. The paint is nice, but not perfect. There are a few blemishes here and there. 65 years of maintenance has made for a very nice surviving driver. Will easily win trophies at your local car shows. There's a box of 'em in the trunk to prove it! 95% rust free. There is a small amount of rot in the very rear lower trunk dropouts. The interior is also in great shape. No rips or tears. Very clean, minus some black silicone that has dripped out of the dash from who knows what. Original spare tire and tools. Brakes and tires in good thick shape. All glass is in good, clear, uncracked shape. No scratches. As for the chrome, about half of the trim is pitted. The rest is clean and clear. Specific details and pics can be provided upon request. Engine runs smooth, and clutch and trans are smooth as well.
A little history copied from a previous listing:
The 1953 Studebaker Commander once again proved the forward-looking genius of Raymond Loewy, the world famous industrial designer hired by Studebaker to position the brand as a design leader. Unquestionably the sleekest coupe of 1953, it was so advanced that the body formed the basis of many Studebaker models all the way through the handsome 1964 Studebaker Golden Hawk.
Since 6-volt originality has been maintained, a heavy-duty Cadillac starter was installed due to its proven ruggedness in these applications. Major re-wiring of the car, and repair of the overdrive were also done. New upholstery, carpet, and headliner were major interior upgrades.
