HIGHLIGHTS
I have been having this beauty restored for the past two years and chose to do so as a strong number 2 car, not looking for show quality as I had to keep in mind this was not a Mercedes Gull Wing or a 63 Vette split window but a Studebaker.JNevertheless I spared no dollars in making sure that all was done correctly so that the car became both a HEAD TURNER and EXTREMELY DEPENDABLE RIDE.
I changed certain things to bring the car up to date such as adding power steering, all original, dual master brake cylinder with refill under the hood vs. under the car. Most of all, I wanted the car to be drivable in the summertime and not suffer from “vapor lock” when the gas lines overheat causing the problem as stated “ya can’t run on vapors”. I had installed a high end racing fuel system with controlled pressure that reroutes and cools any gas back into the tank which was not just updated but rebuilt. The gas is moved along by a quality electric gas pump.I switched out the old generator for a modern alternator with a gauge for it under the dash.
Inside the car, there is a pair of new modern high end speakers that in fact fit the old holes and are way superior to the “replacement junk” sold. The radio itself is a modern radio with an old façade along with a CD/MP3 player in the glove box. (A suitable disk of doo wop oldies on CD with a couple of hundred MP3 tunes comes with carJ). Also inside the wind lace and kick panels have been replaced as well as a full set of carpeted mats in black come with the car (not shown). The steering wheel has been replaced for both look and ingress and egress without leaving your bollocks behind.JI have kept both the old steering wheel and working radio and both will come with car.
The outside look of the car is not to stock by choice. The look was done to surpass the original beauty of the styling by first and foremost adding the very, very valuable continental kit from a 1958 Packard Hawk of which only 588 of them were sold at the time. Very few are left of them today. Additionally while the original Hawk only had color on the outside of the fins, I added color to the inside. I also used the same burgundy color to the center of the hood and the top which just makes the car look “killer kool.” The front bezels with inserts have been re-chromed and all of the script, medals, and mirrors are new.
Rather than prattle on, I am adding a list of all work done and I do possess all of the billing for same.
I have not rebuilt the engine as the pressure is perfect and runs at 40 plus #’s regularly. Car starts right up as a new car would. The transmission was rebuilt a few years ago by the prior owner and works great. The car has the usual small leaks that most due from that generation of cars. There is a small leak in the front of trans and rear of engine. I had to leave you some work to complete.JAll around engine is new.
