1964 Studebaker Daytona

Studebaker billed its 1964 models as "Different by Design." Thanks to Stevens' genius, they received a disguise clever enough to make them look brand new. Front fenders, hood, deck lid, and sculptured roof panel sported new sheet metal, and the result was a handsome, crisply styled car, bearing little resemblance to the earlier models. The Lark name did not appear on any of these cars, though in some of the promotional material the title was used in connection with the less expensive models.

For consignment, a cool cat from 1964 in the embodiment of a modified Studebaker Daytona. She's got great paint, snappy chrome trimmings, some Cragar style wheels, tinted glass, and performance upgrades. You will be rolling into your neighborhood in this skate, and we promise you'll be the only on the block with a Daytona!

Exterior
This hardtop version is looking all spiffed up in beautiful black and showing no rust on the straight steel panels minding their gaps. From the front bumper, to the angled inward front grille in egg crate chrome, flanked by dual headlights, to the trim spear on the belt line, and the arrow styled taillights with another mirror like bumper below, all chrome is excellent. Windows are all trimmed with chrome, and glass has been tinted just too add a little bad ass. Speaking of which dual 2-inch chromed tailpipe tips are peeking out just below the bumper, a hint of some of the performance that can come out of this engine. Shiny Cragar 5 spoke wheels are wrapped with raised letter BF Goodrich radial T/A's on all 4 corners, adding more bling.

Interior
Swing the door and we are stepping back in time with faux stitched black vinyl in square and tuck and roll pattern, along with some shiny thin trim to break it all up for your eye. Slipping inside, we are in near showroom condition heaven, with more black vinyl split front bench tuck and roll, original dash and steering wheel, all buttoned up and nicely preserved with all clear plastic on the front trio of circular gauges in the cluster. The dash is well thought out with all control's levers, toggles etc., all within reach in a rectangular design in front of the wheel. The steering wheel presents fronting this dash in two tone black and white, and a chromed center squared off horn ring. Black carpet with snazzy Studebaker badged two tone black and white rubber mats above is well preserved, and a new headliner has been installed, showing in perforated vinyl in white, nice and tight. A note out there to the trunk where we see no rust, and clean square pattern vinyl liner and spare cover...dripping early 1960's design.

Drivetrain
A nice clean 259ci V8 providing 180 horses, is within a good looking engine bay. Slight rust is noted on the intake manifold but is minor. A single two-barrel carburetor sits atop, and a 3-speed Flight-O-Maitc (don't you just love these 60's tranny names?!) automatic is behind the 8 banger. Yellow valve covers and all supple rubber hoses are also looking groovy.

Undercarriage
Underneath looks great with little surface rust, solid frame, solid floorpans, and solid rockers...solid! Amazing clean overall, and independent coil springs upfront, and leaf springs for the rear, as well as front disc brakes, and rear drums. Consigner states that a newer, better performing rear axle has been put on, and we can see Flowmaster exhausts snaking their way rearward.

Drive-Ability
This baby fires right up, idles like a dream, and a pull of the tree shifter, and we are off like a prom dress. Our test track was no match for this Daytona, which lived up to its namesake with nice cruising, good acceleration, excellent handling, and a good experience. All functions were functioning, and frankly I did not want to put this car down, as playing with it was really fun!

An excellent example of the 1964 Studebaker Daytona well-kept and restored to a nice condition. There is little wrong with this car, and a piece of automotive history for a company that had been in business for years, and was soon to be no longer, however their designs and innovations live on to this day. Check it out, and if you so desire, take her home with you... do it on a Lark...actually it's a Daytona!
