1986 Subaru Brat GL
1986 Subaru Other Brat Description
Up for a NO-RESERVE auction is this 1986 Subaru Brat in great shape. These little 4x4's are getting harder to find especially one in this condition. I recently picked up this little Subaru. The previous owner had it for about 9 years and it was her first car. Her dad repainted it for her. For being an amatuer paint job, it looks good even nine years later. There is a few bumps and bruises here and there but nothing too serious as you can see in the photos. The only rust issue that I can find is right above the tail pipe in the rear roll pan. Other than that, the body is very solid. The T-tops function perfectly and there appears to be no leaks. You can even fully remove them and store them behind the seats. The rear window is a slider also. All the exterior lights work properly. The interior is in excellent shape for it's age. It has seat covers due to the drivers side seat having rips in it. The passenger seat seems to be in good shape. The carpet is still in good condition. There are no cracks in the dash pad, the door panels and headliner are in great shape also. It does have a tilt steering column and all the gauges seem to work and the heater blows hot. This little Brat is a 4 speed manual transmission and the clutch works great and it goes through the gears as it should. It is a 4 wheel drive which engages and works properly. There is only 127,041 original miles showing on the odometer. There has been a good deal of maintenance done recently. It has new front axles, starter, oil pressure sending unit, water pump, radiator, battery, muffler, spark plugs, cap and ignition wires. The engine bay is very clean as you can see. There are a couple very slow oil leaks I believe coming from the valve covers. Nothing alarming especially for a 30 year old Subaru. I'm not too familiar with Subarus but once in awhile it will backfire between shifting gears and there is a set of emissions silencer valves between the air cleaner and the exhaust manifold. One of them is missing and I believe this is the cause of the occasional backfire. This is the 1800cc motor and it runs very well. It starts right up with a couple pumps on the accelerator when cold and idles perfectly and has plenty of power. I noticed the rear brakes making a slight dragging noise when applied so I purchased a new set of rear brake shoes. They will be included with the purchase of the Brat. I just haven't found the time to put them on. The tire tread has reached the wear bars and will need replaced in the near future. All-in-all, this is a great example of a classic Subaru. though not a show car, it is in excellent condition for being 30 years old. The original owners manuals and tool kit are also included! A spare set of original wheels and 2 center wheel caps will also come with it. You have to look pretty hard to find them in this shape.
