1993 Subaru Sambar DIas VW Conversion van RHD Supercharged 660CC Kei Van
1980 Subaru Sambar Dias Description
Up for sale is a 1993 Subaru Sambar Dias VW conversion Kei Van.
IMPORTANT - IT IS A 1993, I HAD TO SELECT 1980 TO ALLOW THE VIN TO TAKE.
This is a supercharged flat 4 Subaru engine with the VW conversion kit. Overall this is a very nice vehicle and looks as though it was a show car at one time. It is 26 years old though, and would need new paint to look it's best again.
Since importing I did the following:
Changed oil (takes the same filter as a Subaru Justy).Changed transmission oil (yes, it takes oil, not transmission fluid. Basically it is a type of gear oil they use).New tires.New radio (nothing fancy).Replaced rear view mirrors.
It runs and drives, everything works as it should (lights, windows, wipers, etc.). AC needs to be charged, I did not mess with it. It takes 134 already (see pic on the filter). There is no rust at all, it is a very clean car.
As for the bad:
I let someone test drive it today, and they got the drivers door wedged against the fiberglass a little. Not bad, but I guess they did not notice. The last picture shows this. The fiberglass is not 100% perfect and could use work, there are a few cracks here and there, it's hard to show it in the pic. I figured most people buying would rather paint it a new color anyway, the brown is a little boring. The driver seat has a little wear, the other seats look good.I am not sure when the timing belt was done, I would recommend getting it done sooner than later. Parts are easily available.Low ground clearance up front. With the length of the bumper it is tight on ground clearance, I would likely lift it a little to avoid any scrapes.
Parts:Parts are easily available, I use https://partsouq.com/ as the primary source and then watch Yahoo auctions Japan as well.
Overall this vehicle is a blast and gets smiles and comments everywhere I take it. Drives fine and keeps up with normal traffic, it has the 660cc Supercharged flat four. I have taken it on the freeway, but only short periods of time. I would not recommend it on the freeway or major road trips. Read online, there are comments either way, but not many recommend it for any trips. If you are local to the Phoenix metro area, I welcome a test drive. There is no corrosion on the underside and the boots are in great condition. This is something to paint and customize the way you want it. I imported it myself, and had fun with it. I am only selling as I have another import on it's way. I do not do this as a business, hence why this is priced less than others for sale. It is purely a hobby and I like sharing cool vehicles with others.
No reserve.
One item the car itself has no corrosion, it is very clean. The headlight covers do have some rust on them, that's it. I wanted to clarify in case anyone had a question on that.
