1993 Toyota MR2; 1 owner; unmolested; as near mint as you can get; low miles
1993 Toyota MR2 Description
If you are a Toyota collector or MR2 enthusiast then you need to check out this car. It's a one owner car, always garaged and pampered. I would park this next to any MR2 in existence and it would hold it's own. The pictures don't do this car justice and really needs to be seen and driven in person. A car like this will not come around very often. It's all original top to bottom other than the normal maintenance items that have been replaced over the years. I will outline it in more detail below.
HISTORY:This car was purchased new up in the Washington State area and shortly after purchase the original owner moved down to Tucson to retire. It has been driven sparingly over the years but the owner loved the car so much he was very reluctant to sell it. Four years ago he came to me for rehab of his total knee replacement (I am a physical therapist). Once his knee was doing reasonably well he drove this MR2 to one of his PT appointments and when I saw him drive up in it I immediately walked out to the parking lot and marveled at the condition of this car. It was as if he just drove it off the lot brand new. I made him promise that if he ever sold it he would give me the first opportunity to buy it. He told me he would likely never sale it. Two years later he came to me after he had his other knee replaced. Once again he drove the car in and this time he said he would probably sell it one day as it was getting harder to get in and out of the car due to his knees. He is 6'5" so he's a tall guy. A few months ago my front office called me and told me that the owner had called and said he was ready to sell the MR2. He showed up at my clinic a few days later with the car and told me to drive him home and I could keep the MR2 for a day or so and see how I liked it before deciding if I wanted to buy it. He brought in some receipts of work he had just done on the car that totaled over three thousand dollars. I was shocked at everything he had done to the car but he said he wanted it to be perfect for the new owner. I will outline all that was done below under the "mechanical" section. I drove the car the next day and I didn't need to drive it any longer. It was like driving a brand new car! I bought the car and it has been in the garage since then. I've been debating what to do with it and I decided to offer it up for sale in the hope that a collector will buy it and keep it well preserved. I don't have the room in my garage to keep it safely stored as I am restoring an old Dodge truck and I'm just afraid something might happen to it. It would be right at home in a dealership showroom and that's what I'm hoping for.
MECHANICAL:The car needs nothing. EVERYTHING works. At 95k miles here is what was done with receipts to prove the work: New front and rear brakes and rotors; new front and rear struts with four wheel alignment; valve cover gasket replaced; new double platinum plugs with new plug wires; timing belt replaced with new water pump kit; new serpentine belt for AC and alternator; coolant flush and replaced; fuel injection service and fuel rail service; all new tires. So you can see, the car is good to go for a long, long time. That's the way he was with the car, it was always over maintained. You can eat off the engine or really any part of the car. AC blows cold and it the original R12 and never converted. The original owner claimed that the wiper blades on the car are the original blades as he never drove the car in the rain so he never used them. I cannot verify that, but it wouldn't surprise me if it were true. The car runs, drives, stops and handles excellent! It is NOT the turbo model but even so, it has very nice pickup and power and is a blast to drive! It's like you're driving a formula 1 race car (I'm exaggerating, but it's super fun to drive)!
EXTERIOR;The car is wearing all of it's original paint and has never been in any type of accident. All panels have the VIN tags on them. The paint literally looks wet. There is no fade to the paint and the car just looks stunning. There is no rust anywhere on this car as it was never driven in rain or bad weather. The pictures don't do the car justice at all. There are a few road chips on the front edge of the car and the driver's mirror. There is one super tiny door ding that will not show up in pictures. All lights and lenses are clear and in excellent condition. Has all the original glass including the front windshield which as one small pit in it that does not affect the driver's vision. All the rubber trim pieces are in amazing condition. The day the original owner purchased the car he had the factory Toyota rims taken down and chromed and they look like they were just chromed yesterday and have stayed in amazing shape for a 23 year old car. Check the picture of the rim for the Toyota insignia on the rim.
INTERIOR:The interior is just as impressive as the exterior. Carpet looks literally brand new with no signs of wear. There is some minor wear on the floor mats themselves where the driver's heel rests but the carpet underneath shows no wear. The leather seats are in great shape but there is a half inch tear in the drivers seat bottom on the outside edge. Other than that imperfection the rest of the interior is flawless. Everything works inside as it should. Seats are firm and very comfortable. The car was never smoked in and no pets were allowed in the car. It smells like new leather inside. The original owner's manuals are in the glove box. The bags for the T-top glass are included and in excellent condition.
SUMMARY:I'm a car guy and have had a lot of really cool cars over my lifetime but I cannot say enough about this car. It's the finest example of an all original MR2 that I have ever seen and it would be hard to imagine one being nicer than this one as the list of flaws on this car is very small. I wish there was a way to screen bidders so I could only sell to someone who would preserve this car in it's current condition, but I know that is impossible. I would urge serious buyers to arrange time to come out and inspect and drive this car in person as it will not disappoint. I have tried to cover everything about the car that I would want to know if I were buying it, but if you have ANY additional questions please don't hesitate to ask before bidding. I do reserve the right to end the auction at anytime as I may be advertising the MR2 in other media as well so it may sell at any time. I require a $500 deposit via Paypal within 24 hours of the auction's end and I require that the buyer contact me either by phone or email within the first 24 hours of the auction's end. I would be happy to pick buyers up at the Tucson International Airport should you want to fly in and drive the car home. This would need to be arranged so my schedule would allow me to pick you up. Enjoy the auction and check my feedback and bid with confidence!
