1986 MK1 Toyota MR2
1986 Toyota MR2 Description
The good, the bad and the sad. I bought this car 4 and a half years ago and began the process of rebuilding it bit by bit. I basically went through the whole car. But...in the past year my life got bigger, at work and at home. I stopped checking the oil as regularly as I used to as this car is known to burn oil. On a drive a few weeks ago the valve train began making bad noises, the oil had dropped below the dipstick. It has oil now but the damage is done. I just can't dedicate the time and energy or money to fix it.
-The car currently runs and drives but above 2,000 rpms the valve train makes bad bad noises, it needs to be rebuilt- The upshot is that I have replaced all the ball joints and bushings- I replaced all the struts-I installed front and rear sway bars-It has new tires on it-I replaced the front brake rotors-I had the transmission completely rebuilt for 3k-I had braided brake lines installed-the AC works well-Really everything works well and the chassis suspension are beautiful-last time I smogged it it passed no problems, I've included the receipt for the OBD2 compliant muffler I put on
-The rear trunk pop lever does not work-It appears to have developed an oil leak which is why I had the problem I did only 2500 miles into the last oil change-The engine cooling fan often comes on but the engine coolant never gets hot so I'm guessing it's a bad relay
It was always my intention to keep this car for a long time but in light of this situation I won'tIf you are able to go through the valve train or swap the engine this car is ready to go in basically every other way.Even if you just want the transmission and the other parts it's a deal.I but the MR2 floor mats in as well as the air shot on the engine cover and trunk lid.The engine was completely gone through before this happened but that almost doesn't matter now. It's not a show piece from the outside but the bones are solid.
i realize even the pictures of the exterior I put are lame. I never took glammer shots of it and now it's parked in the garage.
