1984 Toyota Tercel SR5 4x4. 6 speed manual transmission (5 speed with Extra Low in 4x4).
Overall: A great Driver. Car has 300K but looks very good and is classic Toyota reliable. Everything works. Interior is in excellent shape overall. Tires are even and have 60-70%. No frame or alignment issues. Front suspension was recently gone through and both inner tie-rod ends replaced. Car very quiet and smooth. No mechanical issues.
Happily motors at 75+ on the freeways with a bit more to give, ery straight and smooth even with AC blowing. Windows and doors operate and seal nicely. AC was recently pushing 58 degrees on a hot (89 degrees) San Diego winter day.
4x4 status: Goes in and out of 4x4 as new. Happily climbs loose dirt/sand hills. Originally purchased locally in San Diego, x4 has presumably not seen much use
Overall Mechanical: Brakes are good drives/stops straight. No smoke at start up or driving. Well behaved, oes not leave a mess in the driveway. Best I’ve can tell, verything works.
Specifically Tested: AC, eater/Defroster/Controls, an (all speeds), indshield wipers front/back, ighter, nterior light, eadlights, igital clock. All locks work, ncluding rear hatch, nd gas door. Compression is around 140 or better on all cylinders per my compression tester. Car has new plugs, ires, nd fresh oil/filter.
Body/Paint: Looks good overall. Clearcoat is failing on top of roof and hood especially. Has a few corrosion bubbles around windshield. Fender had a light bump (see pic). No rust inside door jambs, runk or spare tire well. A decent paint job and you will have a very nice Tercel top to bottom.
Interior: The interior looks super. The original seats are supportive and comfortable. The rear package tray and speaker covers are present... not perfect but easily cosmetically renewed. Sony stereo works. Not a great system, ut makes organized sound and cassette player does work. .
CA Smog equipment, tc: Has all original CA equipment. Car is CA registered till November 2016. If need be, t can be smogged for a new CA owner.
Etc: I had purchased to play in our mountain cabin at Big Bear. We haven't made it up to the snow yet this year, nd at the moment, t’s ‘just another car in the driveway.’ We have three kids with their own vehicles, o parking gets to be an issue when everyone is home.
The Salvage title was from being unregistered from 2006/2007. The registration penalties would have been in excess of $1000, o the car was ‘salvaged’ to avoid registration penalties. There are no accidents or insurance claims in its history. As is… it’s reliable and road worthy.
I've spent considerable time and energy going through this classic little Toyota. The hours of detailing and seeing its road ready have been entertaining, ut now it needs a new home. It qualifies for classic insurance ($45 every six months for full coverage), eing that cheap... it may just hang around.
Vehicle is for sale locally, o auction can end anytime. Good Luck.
