1992 Toyota 4Runner 1KZ-TE TurboDiesel Hilux Surf Description

Alright eBay Toyota Diesel 4X4 fans-here is a super cool '92 4Runner that has had the crappy 3.0L V6 gas pig engine removed in favor of the torquey 1KZ-TE 3.0L TurboDiesel with automatic transmission and 4X4 transfer case drivetrain from a JDM (I think) Hilux Surf. I do not know how many miles are on the bodyand the chassis, and I was told that the instrument cluster was from the truck that donated thedrivetrain. I did not do the conversion work, so I don't know for sure what vehicle the drivetrain is from, but my guess is it's a JDM unit. I also believe it was converted from the entire front clip because this 4Runner has the instrument cluster in km/hr, which shows 188,097 km (converted to miles this equals 116,620 miles), and correct tachometer for a diesel, in addition to the factory fast idle switch next to the instrument panel, and a torque converter lock up switch on the center console. The person who converted it also fabricated custom intake piping for an intercooler that is mounted in front, a custom 3 inch exhaust with no catalyst, and a cool exhaust gas temp sensor pyrometer, with digital boost gauge. The exhaust runs pretty cool, even with the boost running to 11 psi at full throttle. The truck rides and drives great, with no oil leaks or oil consumption that Ihave seen or experienced, and the TurboDiesel engine is strong-it cruises at 135 km/hr easily on the highway and returns between 20 and 25 mpg. Also, I calculated that with thebigger tires the speedo reads 7% slow. I recently took a new job in which I need to drive a great deal, so I will be getting aturbo diesel VW instead to save on the fuel expenses. Otherwise I would love to keep this beauty as it is easily the coolest and best-running diesel 4X4 I have ever owned. I have had a couple of gas engine pickup trucks and this is by far much better in terms of usable power, fuel consumption, and coolness.
The cons are that the driver's side front and rear doors have a couple of small dents in them-at the trailing edge of the driver's door, and the leading edge of the rear door, paint is cracking and peeling near the rear windows, and it is a bit faded on the hood and roof (I have priced replacement hood and doors in the same Toyota green color at salvage yards and have found that it would cost about $400 in parts to replace the hood and the driver's side door skins) and there is some surface rust in a few spots. Ihave not seen any corrosion or rot through, however. The truck was in South Dakota for a couple of years before coming to me. You are welcome to inspect it or have a third party inspection done on it. As you can see in the photos there are just some spots of surface rust on the frame and on the bumpers and just a little bit on some of the body panels-especially where the paint has faded. But the custom bumpers and swing-out spare tire carrier are not corroded, and just have some surface rustthat would clean up pretty easily. They are really cool and just need a coat of paint or some powder coating. Also, the front upper control arms clang a little over bumps and I think they need new bushings. I looked into these and the bushings are cheap. I am not sure what a professional mechanic would charge to install them though. The passenger door front window sometimes doesn't operate from the driver's doorswitch, and I think the steering gear needs an adjustment because it feels a little tight. Otherwise, the only other issues are cosmetics--with some tears in the driver's seat, some cracks in the dash, and some scratches in the interior panels. Overall this is a very cool off road capable beast with its suspension and body lifts and over-sized off-road andstud-able Cooper Discoverer tires.
Thisis a no-reserve auction, but I also have the vehicle for sale locally, so I do reserve the right to end bidding early if I receive an offer in my desired price range. Also, there is no warranty expressed or implied and this is an as-is, where-is, no returns sale on a 24 year old vehicle that has had the original engine and transmission removed and replaced with a drivetrain from a model that was built for an international market. I can tell you the truck drives great, starts right up every time, runs great, and offers no disappointments if you are realistic about the fact that you are getting an off-road truck with a torquey diesel engine that is a vast improvement over the 3.0L gasoline engine Toyota originally installed at manufacture. I usually get between 21 to 24 mpg in mixed driving.
