1989 Toyota Land Cruiser HJ61 Description

This 1989 Toyota Land Cruiser HJ61 is a Japanese market model with 134k kms (83k miles) shown that was purchased and imported from the island of Kyushu, Japan by the seller in February 2017. The truck is powered by a 4.0 liter inline-six turbo diesel engine paired to an automatic transmission, and was serviced by the seller after import with new ATF and differential fluids, oil/filter, batteries, solenoid, and front brakes. Additional maintenance included repairs to the radiator and an R134a A/C conversion. Records for the work performed under current ownership totaling nearly $8k come with the truck, which is being offered with a clean New York title in the seller’s name.

The two-tone Beige and Gray Metallic (27G) paint was faded on the hood when the seller acquired the truck, so he had the hood and top parts of the fenders repainted. The paint on the roof was not repainted and shows some oxidation. The front windshield was replaced along with the front mud flaps, right tail lamp, and rear wiper. Aftermarket widow deflectors and side steps were added by a previous owner in Japan.

A 1.5″/2″ lift has been installed, and an Old Man Emu steering stabilizer is present up front. The 16″ Bridgestone CV-928 alloys wear Bridgestone Dueler A/T tires with DOT codes from late 2015 and early 2016.

Inside, the two-tone brown interior shows normal wear for its age with a small puncture on the top of the dash and some scratches on the center armrest lid being the most noticeable flaws. The driver’s side front door panel has a few tears in the vinyl and a stain on the fabric, and the outside bolster on the driver’s seat is a bit flat. Photos that detail the metal underneath the carpet in the rear cargo area have been provided below.

The tachometer is not working, although the green turbo light illuminates as it should, and the diesel glow plug light is not on. The odometer indicates 134,332 kms (~83k miles) though evidence of a roll back has been noted, and the true mileage is said to be 233,163kms (144,881 miles). The seller installed a Panasonic DVD/Navigation/backup camera with JBL speakers and a 12-volt DC converter. The navigation and back up camera are said to work intermittently.

The 3,980cc 12H-T turbocharged diesel engine is matched to a 4-speed automatic transmission and still has its original exhaust in place. The 12-valve motor features direct injection and produced 134 hp and 232lb-ft of torque when new. The seller serviced the HJ61 after purchase five months ago with a new 4WD solenoid, front knuckle seals, front brake rotors and pads, washer tank, and both batteries. He also converted the A/C to an R134a system, repaired the radiator, and changed the differential fluid, automatic transmission fluid, engine oil, and filter. The truck is described as running strong at freeway speeds, and is said to have no current mechanical issues.

Several photos of the undercarriage can be seen in the image gallery below. Included service records document the work done by the seller, and the original spare steel wheel comes with the truck.

Videos of a walkaround, the interior, a cold start, driving, have been provided.
