1976 Toyota Hilux Chinook Description

I am selling a clean, unmolested 1976 Toyota Hilux Chinook camper. This all-original beauty has low miles (under 36K) and was the most fuel efficient camper in the 70's. It gets 29 mpg on the highway and 16 mpg in the city. It will get 250 miles on a 13.7 gallon gas tank. It is small enough to park anywhere and will actually fit in a normal sized garage (17 feet long and 77 inches high when the top is not popped). Once you raise the top it gives 6 feet of head room and the canvas is in great condition. It comes with a fold out bed that sleeps two adults, an area over the cab that could fit two small children or one older child, icebox, stove, sink, storage, table (not shown, in the pictures, but it is in great condition...additional pics can be sent if you need this), lights, curtains, frame mounted step bumper and plenty of 70'snostalgia.
It has 2.2L 20 R engine, 4 cylinder, 4 speed manual. It drives straight and true, but she doesn't go over 70mph. 65 is my preferred speed on the interstate, but you could push her to 70.
The vehicle has a clean/clear title, new tires, emissions approval from California.
This was the most popular recreational vehicle for the surf/sport culture. You could mount surfboards, kayaks, bikes, climbing gear or what ever else you could possibly think of.
The official sales line was "buy an economy car and get a camper for free". The nickname given was theToynook.
All thegauges and electrical works. The heater blows hot, but I haven't had a chance to check the air conditioning.
I had a rig that was comparable to this, but it was a Chevy Chalet. I ended up selling that at a Mecum's auction for $14K (albeit it was a Chevy and a 4X4). This is its fuel efficient smaller brother. The Chalet wouldn't fit in my garage because it was too tall. I have set a very reasonable/low reserve price, so only bid if you intend to buy:) I am a private seller and am not a dealer. I just like the 70's odd-ball finds and I only buy good ones. You may refer to my long, positive eBay feedback record.
So whether you plan to use this for your extreme sports, camping, tailgating or escaping the impendingapocalypse...it istime to buy now. These are rare to find and very rare to be in this good of shape.
This vehicle is sold "AS IS" so please check out the pictures, description and email me if you have additional questions. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding.
