Extra Cab 5 Speed 22RE SDS Injected Magnuson TRD Super Charged 200HP - RUST FREE
1986 Toyota Hilux Pickup SR5 Description
Great running '86 Toyota Hilux SR5 2WD Pickup Truck with Cold AC runs and drives as good as it looks with professionally installed LC Engineering SDS Super Charged 22RE with 9k miles on Built Engine and LC heavy duty Clutch kit.
100% Rust free Tucson truck imported to Tucson dealer back in 8/86 has great new paint from the factory paint code of a 1999 Tacoma and exceptional original interior. Drives tight like a new truck. Never wrecked. Straight as an arrow. As rust free as a shiny new penny.
5 Speed manual transmission with new LC Engineering HD Clutch Kit shifts super smooth, tight and concise as designed.
The Pro-Built SDS (Simple Digital System) Super Charged engine had no expense spared with new crank, new pistons and competition cam. Runs better than great!
This 22RE SC starts every time with a click of the key. No smoke, no knocks, no leaks, no issues. Runs super cool and smooth and quiet. Just doubles the HP of the stock motor every time you step on the gas, making around 200 HP with only 6 lbs of boost and 91 octane pump gas. The only thing you hear when you step on the gas is the tell tale whine of that booster which can't help bring a smile to your face.
These SDS systems require no special maintenance so the vehicle can be a great daily driver. The first and most operative word in the system is SIMPLE so it all starts with their programmable brain box ECU which is mounted under the passenger seat (and has a cable connecting to a hand held programmer) then the spark igniter coil pack assembly which completely eliminates the rotating distributor, cap & rotor. Last is the Super Charger itself which is a simple compressor that's been produced in this same basic configuration since the 1930's.

The ECU and Coil pack is around $3300 and then another $3000 for the supercharger which you can read about under BOOST at LC's website. It's made by Magnuson, the same super charger run on the Toyota TRD.
LC's been selling this setup for a couple decades now and have had great success. It's super reliable because it's all so simple. Any part is readily available and they have great family owned tech support as well.
Magnuson even has a service where if you ever have a mechanical issue with their super chargers you can ship it to them and they'll completely rebuild it for around $500.
There's a boost gauge atop the dash and a mixture dial on the dash with lights showing if mixture is lean or rich. I just leave it turned all the way to the right for full rich. On cold starts the computer is in open loop mode so it runs a little rich for the 1st couple minutes until it get up to a certain temperature which the computer notices then closes the loop whereby the mixture returns to normal and is governed mainly by the computer.
You can drive it all day long with the AC on in Tucson traffic and temp gauge never gets near half way mark. Will roast the tires in 1st and 2nd and spin them in 3rd with the AC on.
My daily driver is a stock '96 2WD Tacoma with 3.4L V6 and 5 speed making around 195 HP. I had my buddy drive the Tacoma and race me on the I-10 frontage road a couple times. This truck ran away and hid from that V6.
I acquired truck in 2016 driving it less than 400 miles and went through it thoroughly adding newer aluminum Scion XB 17" rims and Michelin tires plus '97 Tacoma metallic green paint (which is close to stock but has more gold flake) plus all new fluids, new brakes, new pitman arm & idler arm, new steering stabilizer, and 4 new KYB shocks. New Denso plugs were installed along with a new Denso starter, plus a new crank position sensor from LC. Then radiator was flushed, new fluids in every case, ball joints were installed along with new tie rod ends and alignment.
Lastly I spent a pretty penny professionally installing a new Denso AC compressor with new belt, expansion valve and receiver dryer along with converting system to modern 134A freon which is all still under Merle's Automotive 3 year warranty. This vehicle doesn't have a drip or drop of fluid leaking anywhere nor a speck of rust except maybe on an exhaust pipe.
I planned to convert it to a straight axle 4x4 because I have all the parts but in the end didn't have the heart to molest such a fine specimen so I built a '79 Hilux with a Tundra V8 instead and just have no room to store another truck I don't use everyday. I was considering selling my Tacoma and just keeping this as a daily but I haul all kinds of greasy parts around so I concluded - why beat it up? If you are interested in a 4x4 conversion it can be done in a weekend. You can see what the pair of axles would look like in my Ebay Store. Some thick cardboard could line the bed of this truck and the axles, tranny and transfer case would all fit nicely in the bed of this truck secured with tie down straps so ring me if you want to try and come up with a package deal.
A prominent Tucson Auto Repair Shop owner father whose now retired had it Pro Built in a So-Cal speed shop for his son as a high school graduation present back in 2006 but son got ticket for driving over 100 mph in a 30 mph zone so father snatched it away and stuck it in the shop's storage, driving it twice a year to rub it in the son's nose and keep everything lubricated.
He recently retired, closed all his shops and was selling off a bunch of his equipment when I stumbled onto this little gem. The paint was a little faded and I didn't like the drab green so I had it professionally painted Tacoma green with that bit of gold metallic flake and it really pops!
This truck is not only clean, straight and looks great but is RELIABLE, SMOOTH, TIGHT and VERY FAST.
It's also a great investment because these old rust free Hilux pickups only go up in value.
It's no accident that whenever you see news footage from some war torn part of the world with AK47 equipped soldiers in the back of a pickup the tailgate always reads TOYOTA, without exception.
Super clean interior is 100% stock except for the floor mats, boost gauge and MoMo steering wheel. The red buttons on the wheel operate the horn. Everything works. Has a sun roof. AC blows ice cold. Heat blows hot. Stereo sounds great with multiple speakers and CD changer under rear seat.
Bedliner and class 3 receiver hitch was already in place.
Clean AZ title is notarized and ready to go.
Because it's more than 25 years old this truck is eligible in all 50 States for Historic Plates and Collector Car Insurance Status which means you can arrange through outfits like Grundy Worldwide or Haggerty a $10,000 Full Coverage insurance policy for less than $150 per year which automatically makes it emissions exempt!
