1987 Toyota Land Cruiser Description

For sale: California rust-free, dry frame/shell 1987 Toyota FJ60 Land Cruiser. This is a west coast FJ that I purchased from a private seller in northern CA, then had it shipped to southern CA where I have enjoyed it on weekends for the last 4+ years. Original paint is in excellent shape. Interior cloth seats and carpeting are very clean and above average for this age of FJ. A slight tear on driver seat vinyl and a cracked dash are the only major detractors (see pictures for details).

Engine runs great, always fires up and idles perfectly - zero issues with around town or freeway driving. Transmission shifts perfectly with new clutch. I have spent almost $10,000 in the last four years replacing/rebuilding/improving this FJ to make it reliable and trouble-free (see below for maintenance history – all receipts included with sale).

I spent significant time, money and TLC on this amazing FJ60 as it was my “forever car” (hence the reason I replaced/rebuilt numerous parts that didn’t necessarily need it, but I wanted it to be perfect). But I am now moving cross country, getting married and buying a home, so I’ve made the tough decision to part with it and use the funds for other things. I have only used 4WD once (I pampered it), and it worked great…I had a blast and only regret not doing it more often. A/C blows ice cold and heater blows hot. The speaker system works great, but will eventually need a new receiver.
I have service records dating back to the original owner – all included with the sale. Unlike many FJ60’s I looked at prior to buying this one, there is no doubt this is a dry west coast FJ. I had the opportunity to buy less expensive FJ’s from the Midwest and east coast, but when I looked at them in person and saw the significant rot associated with salt and wet conditions, it became clear I needed to acquire a west coast FJ if I wanted to avoid the headaches associated with frame, rocker and shell rust/rot. The buyer will not be disappointed with this FJ…there’s simply no substitute for classic SUVs that have spent a life in dry climates.
Maintenance during my ownership includes over $9,500 on improvements paid to professional, certified shops: (all receipts included)

I’m open to reasonable offers and will never be offended (but please consider what these FJ’s are worth in clean, original condition and the $$$ I’ve put into it before calling to offer me $12K…obviously I’m not interested in giving the vehicle away). But if you’re a serious buyer and want to make me an offer, please call to discuss. More pictures available upon request. Thanks for reading and good luck.
