1989 Toyota Soarer Aerocabin Description
This is a NO RESERVE auction!
The time has come to sell our company show car. We've owned this rare, 1 of 500 Aerocabin for four years and have displayed it at various shows around the country. It has been featured on both Speedhunters and Bangshift. We've taken it on many road trips, including from California to Tennessee. It truly is in amazingly good condition for its age. The car came from Tokyo, and has definitely spent most of its life in a garage.
The motor has been fully rebuilt using quality components. ACL bearings, Titan metal head gasket, new oil pump, new waterpump, etc. Everything was done correctly, including proper machining for the MHG. All new gaskets, new valve guides and seals, and valve job were done. The turbo was rebuilt by Driftmotion to factory specs. The only performance modifications are a 3" downpipe and high flow catalytic converter. The motor does need to have the valves shims adjusted at the next tune up. No issues, but the head was set up on the bench, and they haven't been readjusted since mating the head to the block. The A/C compressor is new, but the system has not been charged. One hose needs to be replaced as it has a leak.
This car is different than most Aerocabins, as it has been manual swapped to an R154 5-speed. It makes the car a lot more fun to drive. The transmission was overhauled at the same time as the engine. New bearings and synchros were installed. Pictures detailing the rebuild can be found on our blog.
The interior is in absolutely amazing condition for the age of the car. The photos really show that. There is some wear present on the steering wheel, and the center console cover is missing. We do have the rare cupholder for the center console which will be included.
The exterior of the vehicle is also in great shape for the age. Everyone who sees the car comments on how 'clean' it is. The paint still has a great shine, and it turns heads everywhere it goes. There are however a couple issues. The paint has two flat spots on the rear rear window frame from a repair (see photos). The paint has cracked at the rear bumper corners. A few scratches and nicks. The windshield does have several small spiders. I was hit by rocks flying out of a truck somewhere on Route 66 in New Mexico. It happened over two years ago and the have not grown (see photos).
As you can see from this video, the most important part of this car (the top) does work! It doesn't operate from the original switch however. The top computer may be the issue, or it may be due to the transmission swap, but the factory button no longer works. The top is operated on two toggle switches now. It would be very easy to unplug the toggle switches and replace the computer if it can be repaired (I do have it). No factory wiring has been cut or modified in any way to install the switches. The plug into the factory harness connections.
The wheels on the car are 16" SSR Reverse Mesh. Rare in this size/bolt pattern/offset The lips have some small nicks, but no major rash. The centers were restored and painted in a Toyota white to match the car. The center caps are all present, and three of 4 SSR valve stem caps are present.
The only other mechanical issue of note would be the front control arm bushings. They need to be replaced, and are causing a wandering feeling, and they're keeping the car from taking an alignment properly. The front tires are new, because the toe issue caused by the bushings wore the old ones out. The bushings should be addressed before doing much driving or the new tires will also wear quickly.
