1971 Toyota Other Description

This is my 1971 Toyota FJ40 3-speed with the original F1 engine and many original parts. I put a new dash in and purchased new soft doors and a bikini top. I do have a full soft top which was on it when I bought it but haven’t ever put it back on which goes with the truck but no hard top. Haven’t needed or wanted it as I only drive this occasionally around town on the weekends.

I purchased this rig from Alex Prinster at World Wide Vintage Autos in Denver on eBay a few years ago. The truck has been somewhat “restored” when I bought it but wasn’t totally done. I’ve spent over $15K on a lot more “clean-up” work items. When I purchased it, the speedometer did not work so I’m not sure how many miles are on it. I had a new wiring harness put in and most of the truck re-wired. The speedometer cable re-connected. New tires, reverse light, front seat belts, re-covered the bench seat in back, lots of engine work and fine tuning. Rotors, transfer case overhaul, front differential, changed gearing to 3.73 gears for longer run out and smoother driving at higher speeds. (Cruises very nicely at 50-55 mpg), turn signals, rotors, shocks, brake calipers & pads & clips, distributor work, carburetor work, alternator bracket, repair vacuum leaks, secure seating, new fuse housing, wiring clean-up work, repair wipers, replaced axle seal, repair front drive shaft slip yoke, hose replacement, valve adjustment, install center console, replace reverse switch, repair front hubs.

All work completed has been by professionals at Mudrack Custom Cruisers (www.mudrak.com) and by American Classics & Performance (www.acpcustoms.com) (Believe me, I’m not handy.)

I wanted a solid weekend truck I could drive my kids around in and feel comfortable that it was going to star and drive nicely down the road and be reliable. This truck it. Always starts up easily, even after sitting for a few weeks and cruises very nicely at 50mph.There is no rust on it that I can see, and It’s been garaged since I’ve had it. There is no wandering on the road at all, even on the freeway. Great for warm weather around town. Everyone loves it, the color and the look. It’s not molested, but not totally original either.

Since purchase, it’s lived in Mill Valley, CA and I’ve put about 1500 miles on it total which the readout shows.

Full disclosure – the fuel gauge or fuel float sticks. Doesn’t really affect anything, but I thought I’d share.

I have a ton of $ in this cruiser and I’ve loved owning it. However, now it’s time to sell – family calls….
