1978 Toyota Land Cruiser Description

Up for sale is my 1978 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 4x4. This is a highly original rig and retains it's original 4.2L 6-cylinder, 4-speed transmission, and 3-speed transfer case. The mileage shows just 51,625 miles and I believe it to be original due to a number of clues such as limited wear on the pedals, the original wheels are in great shape, the undercarriage is very clean for being an off-road oriented rig (up until a few years ago, these were pretty much off-road toys since new), and it still has it's orginal spare tire on the original 5th wheel. Has almost new Hankook DynaPro all terrain tires installed.
It is color code 854 Sky Blue and has been repainted in the past. It is not perfect but it is in good shape showing some wear on the roof and minor wear on the body. I bought it in Florida from a dealer and the titlework that he showed me indicated this truck started life in Tennessee then made it's way to Pennsylvania before coming down south to Florida then up to Michigan when I bought it. Never seen rain, snow, or off road in my ownership.
It operates very well with no issues. Engine runs great and the transmission, transfer case, and 4x4 all work flawlessly with no leaking. All of the lights and guages work. It has it's original front bumper and rear bumperetts installed but also comes with brand new, OEM from Toyota, front bumper and rear bumperettes in the event it gets fully restored. The rubber seals are all in good shape and both driver and passenger doors seal firmly as do the rear barn doors. The interior is in very good shape with the only blemish being a seam on the passenger seat is starting to come undone. Otherwise it's in fantastic shape.Clean and clear title in my name.

Is there any rust? The short answer; NO. The long answer; There is no rust through anywhere that I can see or feel. I've spoke to a lot of you so this may be redundant but I thoroughly went over this FJ with my hands and myhigh powered magnet in a sock, like I do every single classic car before I buy, and could not find any indication of bondo. I was looking for a unmodified as close tooriginal as possible rig.Not to say that there couldn't be some, but I didn't come across any suspicious areas. BUT, this is not 1978 new-on-the-lot and it has never been fully restored so do not expect perfection.This is an awesome and presentable driver. There is surface rust developing in places such as under the doors, which is minor, but that's it. It's super solid in all body areas.

Does it leak? It's a classic 4x4. Itook it on a 60 mile drive as soon asit rolled off the transporter to get a good feel of the truck, warm up the fluids, and expand all the gaskets and it drove excellent. Part of the process was to see if the truck leaked after thefluids and gaskets cooled down and after2 days, therewas anickel sized oil drop. That's it.

Does it have disc brakes? If you know anything about FJ's, you'd know that 1978 model year has front disc brakes. However, a previous owner did an upgrade and installed a rear disc brake conversion so it has 4-wheel disc brakes.

What's the reserve? People, please stop calling me and beating around the bush just trying to get me to reveal the reserve. I stoppedkeeping track after30 calls asking.Either bid on the truck or make your absolute best offer.

Are you a flipper? NO, I'm an educatedcollector who likes to actually drive my cars, not investin tangible assets because the NASDAQ dropped again. I buy 3-5 at a time, enjoyand care for them, then sell the whole gang and start over.I'm not in a positionwhere I need tosell this truck below the market.I've had multiple FJ's and know what they are worth. Try finding another one that's barely modified with this much originality sopleasestop calling me up trying to convince me that I have a $10,000 rust bucket because you're now price out of the market with today's valuations.
