1980 Toyota Land Cruiser Description

This is an exceptionally rare (in the US), mechanically sound, 1985 FJ45 Troopy that is offered with a clear MS title.

(Listing says 1980 because ebay requires all post-1981 vehicles to have a USA listed VIN. VIN #s from imported vehicles do not show up in this database that ebay uses, so I've had to indicate it is a 1980 model year)

I purchased this truck in Venezuela in 2017 and imported it in 2018. Though I had intended to sell the other truck I imported and keep this one, the wife prefers the other so this one goes.

I imported this to Ft. Lauderdale, flew down and drove it straight home toOxford, Mississippi. It was a breeze and a blast. This thing rides great even at 65 on the highway.

The good:

  • Starts (push button in center dash) like a charm, no problem. Even after sitting for months. No electrical leakage as is so common with these old rigs.
  • I've rebuilt both axles (including replacement of rear ring & pinion) completely with high quality parts (Specter Off Road).
  • New calipers & discs on front.
  • New Tom Woods front shaft, new U-joints for rear.
  • New Aisin locking hubs.
  • Brand new (5) Falken Wildpeak A/T 3W 235-75 tires (less than 100 miles on them)
  • Powder coated front bumper.
  • Came with junk seats. I've fitted (and wired up; they work!) electric BMW 3 series seats in the front. More leg room than I (6' 4") need. To all the purists, yes, I know this may not appeal to you. I understand. Finding originals would not be difficult, just was not in my plans. These are a comfortable option for you if you decided to look for originals.
  • Compression is good across all 6 cylinders.
  • Lots of other new bits (wiper/overflow reservoir, PCV valve, starter, dash cap, dash pads, OEM ashtray, tail lights, shifter boots, all door weather stripping, too much to remember)

The bad:

  • Original bed is there and clean (see under photos), but covered with checkerplate. Its welded in. I had to sand and paint (bedliner) this. Long-term I'd remove, but not something I want to take on right now.
  • 8 small holes in the roof from previously mounted roof rack (M4 bolts).Currently plugged.
  • Paint looks good from 10 feet, but depending on buyers plans may be in the not too distant future for this truck. Small cracks and chips are there.
  • Wheels currently fitted are a bit out of 'round' and have some wobble in them that is apparent between 52-55mph.

I'd like to move this to reallocate funds to the build of my wife's FJ40 and the completion of my D90 build. Don't hesitate to reach out if you have questions.
