1985 Toyota 4Runner SR5 Description

Here is your chance to own a piece of Toyota history with this excellent condition 1985 4Runner SR5.
This beauty was originally purchased by my father in Oct 1984 in Southern California and I remember riding in it as a child and always hoping it would some day become mine some day. My father occasionally drove it but as he got older, it mostly stayed in the garage on a battery charger. Well a few years ago I inherited it and slowly brought it back to its original glory by cleaning it up, replacing worn parts and upgrading others. Its now a head turnerevery timeI take it out for a drive.
As you can see from the pictures, this 4Runner is in excellent condition for its age. The paint is factory original and the faded factory deals were recently replaced. The removable roof has only been off once in its early years and is still water tight and in great condition. It has never seen anything more hardcore than a gravel road once or twice on a camping trip in 30 plus years. There is no chassis rust and only very minor surface rust on some metal parts such as the rear leaf springs. Door and window seals have been replaced with new OEM original parts. The interior is super clean and original except for the carpet and CD player. To my knowledge I have made sure everything works on this vehicle. All lights and switches including the power windows, power antenna, rear power tailgate and rear deck light are all operational.
This 4Runner is so reliable it could be driven daily as it starts right up and runs great. I Within the last few hundred miles, the engine was tuned up, fuel filter replaced, and a LCE performance intake and exhaust header was added to give it a bit more power. Since its exempt from smog testing in WA state as aclassic car over 30 yrs old, thecatalyticconverterwas removed and a new exhaust system was installed from the header back. ( Cat and other original misc parts will go with vehicle)
As you can see, tires are new and the original chrome whelels still shine. The brakes are completely overhauled with new calipers, rotors, pads, wheel cylinders, drums and stainless steel brake lines. Even the master cylinder has been replaced and upgraded to the larger 1 inch bore unit for improved braking and pedal feel.
Overall this 4Runner is a great example of the original era of the simple but effective small SUV and finding one in this good of shape after 30 years is next to impossible. Still has the original California front plate. I hate to let a family heirloom but the time has come.

Well a few years ago I inherited it and slowly brought it back to its almost original glory by cleaning it up, replacing worn parts and upgrading others. As you can see from the pictures, this 4Runner is in great condition for its age. It was the top of the line SR5 model with a fuel injected 22RE engine and 5 speed transmission. The paint is factory original with new decals The removable hardtop roof has only been off once in its early years and is still water tight and in great condition. It has spend 99% of the time on paved roads and maybe a gravel/dirt roada few times while on camping trips. There is no chassis rust and only very minor surface rust on some metal parts such as the rear leaf springs. The body did have one dime size rust spot below the fuel filler door that has been treated and touched up. Door and window seals, tail lights and turn signals have all been replaced with new OEM original parts. The interior is super clean and original. (Except for the new carpet and aftermarket CD player). To my knowledge everything works on this vehicle except the A/C which lost all its R22 refrigerant years ago. All lights and switches including the power windows, power antenna, rear power tailgate and rear deck light are all operational.

The brakes are completely overhauled with new calipers, rotors, pads, wheel cylinders, drums and stainless steel brake lines from LCE performance. Even the master cylinder has been replaced and upgraded to the larger 1 inch bore unit for improved braking and pedal feel. The front and rear bearings were replaced and the front hubs rebuilt. New steering stabilizer also.
This 4Runner still has some original character with a few minor door dings and paint nicks but overall it's a great shape and a increasingly rare example of a 1st generation single front axle, fuel injected 4Runner in SR5 trim. I hate to let a family heirloom but the time has come.
