1980 HJ45 Land Cruiser Diesel w/ rebuilt 2H Drive anywhere! Troop Carrier
1980 Toyota Land Cruiser Description
1980 Toyota HJ45 Land Cruiser
Relisted - Had it sold locally but the gentleman couldn't come up with the funds. Nice enough guy but please make sure all of your $$$ is in line before committing to buy. Stuff happens....Sorry to any watchers from the last listing.
I imported this truck from Cairns, Australia a couple years ago. I have since bought an HJ47 Troop Carrier so I need to sell one due to space. That said, I'm not desperate (I can just pay storage if needed.) I actually don't really want to sell it but if it goes, it goes.
I would drive this across the country tomorrow. I regularly drive it 6 hours round trip to NH on the weekends. Excellent road manners and can do 65-70 all day long. Tracks straight with no wobble or pull. A pleasure to drive. Has never overheated on me even on long trips in 90+ degree weather.
HJ45 Built June 1980.
2" lift (looks to be OME but not positive)New Bilstein shocks all aroundNew Brakes- has drums all around. Its the bigger drums that only were on for a year just prior to discs. I imported a kit with all new shoes and wheel cylinders. Stops as good as a giant metal box can stop.OEM new rims from the local Toyota dealer. New hubcaps as well. I have the original OEM white wagon rims that go with it if you want (yes they were OEM for that model in AU)New Tires- 33x10.5x15 BFG Mud Terrain T/ANew oversized batteryOEM wipersColormatched monstaliner bedliner in back areaNew door cardsHad rear jump seats professionally upholstered in blackNew Bestop fold n tumble bench seat and belts so the kids don't become hamburger in an accidentNew light lensesNew headliner- sooo...I put it in perfectly but used the wrong glue. I then bought the right glue but had a few beers when I put it back in. Mainly on the rockers but you can feel behind it that it doesn't go through. Nobody would notice. There is also some on the hoodDent on the passenger side door near the hingeDent on the rear ambulance door at the hingesSmall rock chip on windshieldThe key is quirkyWasher squirter is not hooked upFront tabs for holding on the bezel broke off (zip ties in pics)Front bumper corner is bent in a bit behind the license plate. It is very thick steel so I wasn't about to fix it.Handle on the heater box is brokenOdometer is broken. Has a rebuilt engine anyway so doesn't really apply anyway.

Engine has plenty of power. Not fast obviously but idles great and has tons of torque. No drips on the pavement!! Smokes a bit on startup as most do. I usually don't prime the glow plugs long enough. If I do prime them correctly it doesn't smoke much at all on the start. Engine doesn't smoke when driving.
4 speed transmission runs fine
4WD works fine but I've never used it
Clutch is excellent....perfect basically.
All lights and switches work such as hazards, wipers, directionals, headlights, etc
Has current MA state inspection sticker
The underside has undercoating on it and some has fallen off. There is dirt on the underside which makes it look rusty but it really isn't. There really is no major rot underneath. I can text pics of any parts of the truck you may need.
EDIC arm is gone. This is the rod that shuts the truck off by cutting off the fuel in the fuel rail. There is a pull handle which cuts off the fuel. Its a very common problem and there are no parts to repair. If you're familiar with diesel cruisers you already know about this or get on IH8MUD and search for it. Most diesel cruisers have this issue.
This is a 36 year old truck. Its a great driver. I get tons of compliments. Runs great so drive it as is or do it up. Most FJ40 parts will fit this truck aside from diesel or RHD specific items. There are suppliers here in the US with diesel parts available.
This truck is NOT a fully restored rig. Please inspect it in person if possible. There are nicks here and there, the paint is good but far from perfect. Do not call me after you bought it because there is a small ding.
Massachusetts title in hand and I have all correct import paperwork to back it up.
Right hand drive is easy to learn. If I can do it and if the post office can do it, so can you.
My number is 617-480-6693 with any questions or text pic requests. Located in Millis MA.
