1954 TR2 Long Door. Excellent. Very few made in first year produciton only
1954 Triumph TR2 Description
This particular TR2 is a bit rare, as the "long door" (as they would be come to be known as) was in production for only one-year. Prior to VIN 4002 the TR2 had a "long door" but after complaints about the bottom of the doors hitting curbs the doors were redesigned. It's hard to say how many "long door" TR2s still exist, but according to the most recently updated Survivors List, there are now about 850 of these listed, with most of them in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, making a long door TR2 a rare sight in the U.S.
According to her British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Factory Record, she was built on July 12, 1954, as a LHD North American Export. The exterior color is listed as Pearl White, with interior trim as Red Leather and the top as Fawn (note a photo of the Heritage Trust Record in the link below). She still wears the original white on red color combination that she was born with.
She is in excellent condition, having just received a cosmetic and mechanical refresh in the last few months.
The speedometer needle wobbled a bit, so we had it rebuilt. All other gauges were tested to ensure proper operation. All lighting works as it should. The wheels, including the spare, were powder coated. The leather seats had their foam recently replaced. The brakes were rebuilt, along with the master cylinder, in the last year.
Over our years of ownership we also had an aluminum radiator installed, along with a finned aluminum valve cover (the originals are included). A stainless steel original style muffler from Moss Motors was fitted. The twin SU carbs were also rebuilt not too long ago. The choke is properly fitted and works as it should (she starts very easily). The fuel pump and filter was replaced. In addition, the differential assembly and associated hardware were also replaced.
The engine starts immediately and runs very smooth and strong. The 4 speed transmission shifts just like it should, shifting through the gears cleanly. Suspension, steering and brakes are as they should be.
Paint work shows very few signs of use or age. Stainless and chrome trim is excellent. A black top and tonneau are included and in excellent condition. The trunk is appropriately trimmed with fitted black carpets, and the rubber seal is excellent. There is also an original car jack with new strap and tire wrench included. Please refer to the photos.
She was recently on display at the San Diego Automobile museum for a special exhibition called The British Invasion. She has also been on the field at the Palos Verdes Concours d'Elegance. Note that we drive the TR2 to shows and events, sometimes 200 miles round-trip.
