1976 Triumph SPITFIRE CONVERTIBLE Description

Great Lakes Classic CarsPresents withNO RESERVEthis very nice1976 Triumph SpitfireMK 4 1500...... In the great tradition of British Roadsters, the Triumph Spitfire is a no non-sense drop top that provides the classic British open-air motoring experience. The Spitfire's were never known for their speed however, the Spitfire 1500 was the highest powered version with greater torque to make it much more driveable in traffic. The 1500 engine was used to make the Spitfire 1500 from 1974 thru 1980.For 1976 only the compression was raised from 7.5 up to 9.1 offering much improved performance, torque was greatly increased by increasing the cylinder stroke to 87.5 mm (3.44 in), which made it much more driveable in traffic.Improvements to the suspension followed with the 1500 included longer swing axles and a lowered spring mounting point for more negative camber and a wider rear track. The wider, lower stance gave an impressive skid pad result of 0.87g average. This put the Spitfire far ahead of its competition in handling. The EXTERIOR paint is in good condition with plenty of shin, no dings and no rust. It was repainted once before by previous owner not due to corrosion but simply to freshen up the old original chalky finish. The exterior is complimented by the chrome bumpers front and rear with good shine and no rust or peel. The original wheels are in good condition without curb rash. The INTERIOR is black with doors and dash also nicely trimmed, all in very good condition. The dash gauges are clear and the wood trim in good condition We have both the Hard and Soft Tops to go with it. The Soft Top has a small seam separation on side by rear quarter window and the Hard Top is also painted to match with a bit of under headliner tearing. Both very functional and obviously a Must Have!Very solid car with only age and a bit of experience to show.Typical scaling and superficial browning on undercarriage that has not been hidden or touched up by painting or undercoating show how solid car really is. Pictures of trunk also easily conclude the same,,,Solid Car! Runs Great! These cars are easy to work on with plenty of parts available making them popular affordable summer cruiser collector cars today.
