1974 Triumph TR-6 Description

Barn-find 1974 Triumph TR6

This car was found, quite literally, stored in a barn in Northern Utah. All indications are that it has been off the road since the late 1980’s. It still retains its last Utah state safety inspection sticker from 1987. The current Utah title was issued in December of 1986.

What we know: many years ago, the car was bought with the intention of a V8 conversion. That project was started, but never completed, which is why and how the car has sat, unused, for nearly 30 years. Most of the parts, removed for the conversion, were retained by the previous owner, and were included when the car was purchased. We have “undone” most of the modification – including repairs to the firewall and floors, and repair of the motor mounts. The TR6 engine, transmission, and driveline are now back in the car.

The car is very rust free, with no signs of corrosion damage to any of the usual locations. All the fender lips, body-seams, floors, trunk bottom, etc., are extremely solid. The only rust we find is superficial surface rust, in the few places where the paint has been chipped. The passenger side of the car has a minor dent, as pictured, above and forward of the rear wheel arch, and some minor dents in the door skin which will require attention. Even the paint, which seems to be original code 65 Emerald Green, shows well for its age.

The car is un-restored. Having sat for nearly 30 years, everything will need attention. The motor turns freely, but is likely to need a full rebuild (shows low compression on several cylinders). Condition of the transmission and differential are unknown. Fuel system, of course, will need to be cleaned out. Radiator will need repair or replacement. Etc. We would recommend starting anew with electrics. We have made no effort to start or drive this car. Soft bits (carpet, seat covers, convertible top, tires) are all in need of replacement or refurbishment. With such an original, rust free shell, this car is a tremendous candidate for such a restoration.

We have uploaded a video walk-around of the car, including the underside, to youtube: https://youtu.be/MOWCoTAt6g4

Mileage is unknown. The speedometer is sitting at 49,999mi, but was out of the car when we got it, and we have no way to verify the accuracy. The title we have, issued in 1986, does not list an odometer reading.

The car is currently located in Northern Utah, USA (Salt Lake City area). Any shipping costs, and arrangements, are the sole responsibility of the buyer. We will, of course, do our best to assist and facilitate in the loading of the car for transport. The car is being sold as-is, where-is, without any warranty. The dashboard, loosely fitted to the car for pictures, will be removed and bundled separately, to ensure safe transport.
