This is a beautiful end of an era Triumph Spitfire 1500, with only 62,000 miles. 1980 was the last year of construction for the Spitfire, ending an 18 year run of production. This is my fourth Spitfire, I restored a 1968 mkIII and two mkIV`s when I lived in England. She recently won 2nd place in the New Jersey Triumph A touch of England 2019 show.
I have replaced or upgraded the following:
Brakes completely refurbished with new shoes, adjusters, drums, wheel cylinders, uprated rotors, performance pads and brand new calipers. The brake system was flushed and refilled with Dot 4 fluid.
Ignition upgraded to high performance HT leads, plugs, hi amp coil, rotor and rotor cap. Hard top came without rear glass, which is impossible to find. So I made one with a new seal. The soft top is in good condition.
CD, Bluetooth, Aux, USB quad speaker stereo fitted.
The SU was replaced with a Weber 32/36 (manual choke) with a Pierce inlet manifold. The manifold studs were all replaced. The Exhaust was replaced with a stainless steel, manifold back standard system.
Tires were great but there was no spare, so I sourced, restored and matched to the existing rims and fitted a new tire. The Spit has 175/70R13`s all round. The rims have Triumph center bosses and chrome trim rings; the spare has a chrome rim as well.
New carpets were fitted in the trunk, together with new cockpit trim panel and fuel tank carpeted back board. I replaced the hand brake cover, arm rest and gaiter with new parts. The old trim was brown, I replaced it with a more suitable black. Seat belts were replaced with new.
The seats are from a Mazda Miata, which fit perfectly and are more supportive. These seats were stripped all the way down, bases blasted, repainted and then recovered in the gorgeous leather look you can see. Rubber seals, including door window inner and outer seals, replaced.
The vehicle was fitted with the ?Black Chrome? trim. I am not a fan, so I sourced replacement chrome trim from England, and fitted it. The vehicle was originally a rubber bumper model. These were replaced with chrome. The front bumper is the only part that may need re chroming.
The dull Triumph candle headlights were replaced with modern period, brighter, units. The battery, fan belt and Bosch alternator are all new.
The dash was replaced with beautiful walnut burr.
The vehicle went to a local professional restoration company for paint over a year ago. The original Russet Brown (code AAE) was matched, and vehicle has no rust.
