RARE 1971 Triumph Stag Mark1 convertible 4 seater
1971 Triumph Other Description
Here you have a Mark1 Triumph Stag.
Built between 1970 to 1978 was the most refined car Triumph made. Built to compete with the Mercedes Benz SL-Class. Originally came with a 3.0lt v8, under powered and plagued with mechanical issues.
This car you see here is a survivor, built and taken care of by Ron Spegalmann of Triumph Motors in Wood River Illinois. comes with a car show first class plaque from 2007. Ron has since passed away. This was Ron's personal Stag and has now come out of storage for 7yrs.
This Stag has gotten rid of the original engine and opted for a Buick 213cu V8. In British car history the rights to the engine was bought by British Leyland and put in many of there cars, Land Rover still uses it to this day! So this makes it the best swap and it conforms to British Leyland .
While this car is a very nice example its not perfect! Im sure you can take it anywhere and to any car show and be the only person having one! It runs and drives great, the interior is in very good shape, the top is nice and the paint is decent. But at the same time it has some electric quirks, the back window needs to be replaced, the carpets need cleaning and there are chips, dings and defects in the paint (really nice 5 footer)!!! The CHROME and TRIM is close to perfect!!( it is very expensive to re-chrome and hard to find)
Things I have done:
Rebuilt Edlebrock carb
Replaced vacuun advance
Replaced points with a Pertronix ignition system
Went through the entire electrical cleaned and greased all contacts
Replaced headlight switch
Replaced clutch master and rebuilt slave
New taillight lenses
many more small things
as you should know, this has Lucas electrics. it has some gremlins not bad ones but does have some.
I have gone through it but they still reappear.
All lights work including interior
Things that need looking after
No rust visible and shows no signs of it being in an accident
Paint is older and has some chips and dings
Doesn't have a spare tire
Cover for the top doesn't latch(I will be looking into that before the sale is final)
Wire wheels show signs of aging
Fit and finish on interior is not perfect(Remember its British)
Rear window on convertible needs replacing
Comes with a hard top that needs restoration
Alternator light stays on when engine is running( alt is working)
This Triumph is a blast to drive and has a lot of power(total sleeper)
This is hard to find car
This is a nice Triumph but not a perfect Triumph!!!!! Will turn heads!!!!
