For sale in our Orlando showroom is a 1963 Volkswagen Type 2. It's hard to deny the impact that VW had on American culture in the 60's, with their price point, economy, and simplicity the early air cooled VW's gave a generation of American kids the independence they were searching for. A pillar vehicle for the counter culture movement in the 60's the iconic "hippie van" was seen as the perfect vehicle for road tripping out to music festivals, the beach, or anywhere the wind blew. Even though the micro bus found its roots in the counter culture its design and utilitarian concept did not go un noticed by the blue collar workers and the big three in Detroit. The type 2 featured a unique forward control configuration and paired with a rear mounted engine this design maximized interior space for cargo and passengers. The big three took note of this and made their own variants of the forward control design such as the Corvan, Econoline, and A100 though none could match the production numbers executed by VW. Available in 4 body styles ranging from the panel van to trucks to the legendary 21 window passenger van there was a bus to suit every need. This fine 1963 comes to us in panel van variant and with loads of cool factor mixed in. Fresh off its restoration in 2014 this original California bus was a great restoration candidate. Decked out in a very clean beige and turquoise color scheme this panel is a hit wherever it goes. a 1600cc dual port with single carb this van still has all the reliability you would come to expect with the air cooled Volkswagens. During the restoration all of the key items were replaced such as the wiring harness and new safari windows and gaskets. Inside the interior has been redone in a matching turquoise and white with fun and tasteful upgrades such as an am/fm radio and SCAT T shifter. If you are a fan of attention then this is the ride for you, it's hard to go anywhere without having a group of people flock around regaling you with stories about their college days or the younger generation that has never seen one in real life. Utilitarian in its design this is a great vehicle to load up a few surf boards and hit the beach or grab the sleeping bags and make haste to the camp ground for a weekend getaway.
